Question about 1992 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

Engine hesitates or cuts out with a forward load but not ireverse

Diagnosed as distributor cap, distributor, or rotor problem. Upon replacing all three at once problem still persists. Car runs fine in drive with a slow and steady increase of speed, but not with a faster acceleration from stand still or in trying to pass another car. It will buck or stall out. There is no problem accelerating in reverse and no problem revving in neutral.

Check fuel pressure at idle it should read 30psi. If you have a weak fuel pump it will act just like you describe. Located intake and replace the fuel filter.

Engine died while driving, no spark, replaced coil, now starts, idles, runs well at low rpm, but misfires when accelerating. No check engine costs thrown. What should I check next.

Change your ignition module. The distributor is a weak point of the Honda, I will always change out the whole thing than just try the coil.

While driving my 91 capri it just shuts off. no spuddering or anything?

Sounds like ignition module in distributor going bad...they are electronic and get heat sensitive...when they cool off a little the car starts and runs again...fairly simple to pull the distributor cap, rotor and then replace the module...Chris

Car started and ran fine, quit while driving and now there is no spark and turns over.

Hello first of all

In reading your issue at hand not having no spark there is only a few things that can cause this being that its a 1988 car i will list below what you need to go over and check.

1.spark plug wires
2. distributor cap
3. ignition rotor
4. coil pick up
5. faulty distributor

That being said most are a easy and cheap fix plug wires run about 20-35 bucks autozones duralast brand , distributor cap runs between 7-18 bucks , ignition rotor 3-8 bucks , coil pick up about 15-30 bucks all at autozone.

Now there is no real way to tell if there bad but a good examination of the distributor cap and rotor should tell you corroded inside cracked worn down.

i would start with distributor cap , ignition rotor, coil pick up if the car starts after this replace spark plugs wires. If that does not fix it most likely you distributor is faulty itself.

i hope it helps if so could you leave me so 4 thumbs up feedback thanks so much

My car will run fine till it gets hot it will stall then it want start till it sits for thirty minutes then it will start then

Replace hall effect pick up plate in distributor. Remove distributor cap, and rotor. Black round plate under rotor is the pick up. Remove it, unplug wiring, align it same as old one and install new, plug it in, replace rotor and cap. It was a common problem for those.motor1258_16.jpg

I possess Honda Civic Ex 1995 model. I drive my car on petrol and on CNG too. Since last 2 months I m facing a problem that my car gives jerks (misses) in slow speeds i.e in 2nd or 3rd gear when I drive it...

The problem is that the CNG is not burning. Causing the miss. It is not going to have anything to do with the ignition. Other than maybe spark plugs. You can get a hotter spark plug that will ignite the CNG. If the car runs fine on petrol then the plugs are just not hot enough.

Check the Hall Effect pickup which is under the distributor rotor. It will cause the problems you are describing if it fails. It might be sticking, then when you play with the cap or rotor you jar it loose for a while. It tells the computer that the engine is turning, like a crank sensor. Cheap fix if that's what it is.
