Question about 1997 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

Transmission? once in a while when I come to a stop at a light or a sign when I try to take off again its as if the car is in neutral. It just revs really high. After a minute or two it will make a loud popping noise and the whole car will **** and then take off like nothing happened. Instead of reving it till it does work again though I've found that if I put the car in park turn it off then start it again it will work fine but it is still a problem that needs to be fixed. Other than that the car drives like a dream

Have you checked the oil level, as a low oil level may cause this problem. Also check the oil level while the motor is running. cause when the motor is not running the oil from the torque converter run back into the sump and can give you a inaccurate reading.
Another cause is a break band or cluch pack slipping from ware.

Transmission slipping

Your tyranny is either low on fluid or getting ready to kick the bucket... one of the signs you watch for is the car Jerks hard when changing gears while cold but seems to be OK when warmed up... this can go on for months... one thing to try asap.. get the transmission flushed... and don't be a lead foot... if she is slipping it's not going to help if you give it more gas... but a lot of the time a good flush will help ( filter gets plugged and the transmission fluid isn't doing its job

Car going into neutral? I drive an 01 Jetta 4-speed automatic. When I'm in drive and i come to a complete stop and wait for the Rpms to go to 800 you here a light thump which is the car going into neutral....

Sounds like dirty or clogged transmission fluid-filter. Can be a more serious tranny problem...first try adding a bottle of Luca Oil Transmission stabilizer additive to the tranny...follow instructions...no draining needed. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a transmission problem. Possible torque converter clutch issue, means replace the transmission.

Transmission always in neutral

sounds like you ran it too low on transmission fluid and may have fried your internal clutches.
I had this happen once and trust me you never do it twice.
Check the fluid and see if it has a 'burnt' smell to it.

Stalling And Engine Revving

Sounds like a transmission problem. My car was doing that and it turns out it had a transmission fluid leak that had led to major transmission damage. The bad news: the entire transmission had to be rebuilt.
