Check the coil pack. Same symptoms on mine. It went at 74,000.
You can get the resistance specs from a shop manual. I have been told the plastic engine cover traps heat and makes short life of the coil pack. I removed the top engin cover, cosmetic only after replacing mine. You will probably need spark plugs also they are probably fowled by now. If you have not changed spark plug wires in awhile in would not hurt.

when engine light blinks ecm has detected random missfire at spark plugs or plug, depending on code,it can be cause by damage spark plug, plug wiring or coilpack!scan code to pin point if its random or 1 cylinder only that missfires.

You have to find the reason the check engine light is on. This will aid in diagnostics. Also, are you buying fuel at the same place both times?

Stalling and running rough - Hyundai Elantra - 2001-05

The Hyundai Elantra 2001 - 2005, 2.0 L engine is noted for this problem. It will lack power on acceleration and run rough and stall while driving. The engine light will come on for misfire codes. This problem is caused by a vaccum leak at the intake manifold gasket. The gasket is broken and needs to be replaced.
To replace the intake gasket with a new one, remove the 12m nuts holding the intake to the cylinder head. Then pry back( note: you do not have to completely remove the intake manifold here) the intake manifold to gain excess to remove the old gasket. Remove any excess gasket and clean with brake cleans the surface area of the intake. Install the new intake gasket on to the head and carefully install intake on to cylinder head studs. Tighten up nuts gradually and evenly to 15-20 ft.lbs.

2001 hyundai elantra running rough no power

Have you checked the air filter and filter box for a blockage ?
Low fuel pressure would also be a possible cause.

At 40-45mph rough shift check engine light comes on and lack of power

A rough shift can result from the vehicle running rough. Lack of power and a vehicle running rough can be caused by one of two very common problems. One is a leak in the air duct between the air filter and the throttle body. The other is a leak from rubber hoses connecting the intake to the PCV valve at the crankcase causing a vacuum leak. More serious problems such as a misfire from a bad coil pack or a blown head gasket can also cause the vehicle to lose power and run poorly but these are not as common.
