I have a similar problem on my 1999 GMC Suburban. Have gone through 3 fuel pumps and it is acting up again. If is the fuel pressure regulator why is the problem intermittent and not a hard failure. Will a computer diagnostic confirm the problem?

1998 GMC Suburban. Did an oil change about a month ago and then changed the spark plugs, but now the car won't even start??? I have no clue now.

When you initially turn on the ignition switch,(before engaging the starter) do you hear a humming sound from the rear of the vehicle for about 3sec's? (sort of like a motor running) If not, you have a bad fuel pump. (The fuel pump is located inside of the fuel tank)

If no fuel is getting to the injectors replace the fuel pump relay. The engine oil sensor has a 3rd wire that sends the signal to prime the pump as you may know. When the oil pressure is reached to the normal range the computer shuts off that circuit to the oil sensor and turns on the relay to the fuel pump

1998 gmc suburban runs great when it is drove for anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple hours. It will either die when coming to a stop or will not start after being ran for awhile and turned off. fuel...

You said a would not start but you didn't say if it would crank. if it does not crank it sounds like it might be a bad battery. Dirty battery terminals, or if there's an alarm on the car that could be a problem. When it cools down if it starts to crank again that sounds like it might be the battery. But if it does crank pour some gas down the throttle body. If it starts and dies out you have a fuel problem. If it does not start you probably have a problem with your ignition system or power going to it. Good luck.

Problem for GMC 1998 Suburban DIESEL DIES while

Its called the fuel pump cylinoide which is attached to the fuel pump. Unless the fuel pump is bad, you got an expensive part to buy around $2500 or the cylinoide is $900 whichever is broken. This is a know issue for GMC deisel suburbans 6.5.

If you can, check the fuel pump pressure. The Votec engines are real sensitive to the right amount fuel pressure. If the pump is getting weak, it will cause the symptoms you are describing.

Have the crank shaft sensor check out. This is a beginning of the problem. After that it will never be able to start since the ECM doesn't know what the position of the piston reported through the crankshaft sensor to turn on the proper ignition. Good luck.
