I have a S Type. Have you been parking on an incline when this happens? It is ALWAYS recommended to use your handbrake first before putting the car in park. However, I am infamous for not doing so. I run into this quite frequently. You may have someone try to rock the car, however this is not good for the transmission. The shifter alignment cable may be out of place or the clip attached to it is jammed , if you know of someone who is good with cars have them look at it. You may also try jacking up just one of the rear tires , the wheel has movement and therefore will free up your transmission. I have done this just last week and it works. I hope this helps you and saves you some money as the Jaguar dealer will bleed you.

Take it to a Jag dealer and ask them to check codes. It could be your torque converter failing. If it is the sooner the better as it could save things in your Gearbox.

A good auto transmission shop may have the tools to check for codes.

Reverse lights permanently on

shift linkage may be the problem. The shifter is not activating the switch to tell the reverse light off.

X type will not reverse

Check your trans fluid. Look in the Owner's Manual to see if you have the shift interlock override/bypass button available. This allows the shift lever to be moved w/out pushing the brake pedal.
ENSURE THE PARKING BRAKE IS SET before trying this.

If it moves w/the shift interlock disengaged, it's likely an issue w/the shifter - not the transmission, but since it's a Jag....well, you're probably going to have to sell a kidney!GL,Td

My daughter just bought a jaguar type s 2000, I wish she would of read the reviews I saw before she purchased this car. The same day she bought it she came to my house parked in my drive way and was...

Check to see if the brake lights are working. The park-lock is usually deactivated by the brake light circuitry. She should be able to drive the car if she turns the key one click, puts the car in neutral, and then cranks the car. Gotta believe the ford solution will work on the Jag, since Ford owns Jaguar.

Reverse light doesn't light up every

The travel in the switch has probably increased in the time you have had the car. The switch- or shifting linkage directly related to the reverse light switch- may have some adjustment left. If not probably a new switch would fix it.

Reverse no engagement

it is most likely just an electronic issue and not a defective transmission.

Jaguar S type will not move out of park

good posibility is brake light switch. this sits up behind your brake pedal. if you can move gear shifter with key just in between off and acc put shifter in position just between drive and neutral or park and reverse see if you can get it into gear from there if so that is most likely issue
