Car won't start

Some times the car wont start due to no fuel, After a 12 min. wait it starts , I think it is a passlock sensor that is the problum . Can I bypass it and if so how. help

    sometimes the car will start then others try as you will it won't. It will start cough then not go at all. I was thinking the fuel pump as the filter was clogged solid and the sensors have no reading but the fuel pressure isn't always where it should be.

Put vcr head clearer in the key slot and on key then it will work

96 buick skylark starts & stalls, theft light on not flashing. Dissconnected map sensor still starts & stalls. No chip in key, changed fuel filter. whats goin on here?


This is pass lock antitheft system not pass key, pass key system is found on newer gm vehicles and has a transponder in the key. Pass lock system has a hall sensor on the lock cylinder.
System Operation
If the mechanical key is not used to start the vehicle, the PASSLOCK?"¢ system is designed to prevent vehicle operation. The mechanical key, in normal operation, will turn the PASSLOCK?"¢ lock cylinder. The PASSLOCK?"¢ lock cylinder will relay a Resistance Code (R-Code) to the instrument cluster. Within a preset time window started from an ignition switch input and will send a coded password to the powertrain control module (PCM). The instrument cluster will determine the validity of the R-Code. For the fuel injectors to operate normally, the powertrain control module (PCM) receives the correct code
Passlock System
Disabling the engine unless the PASSLOCK?"¢ lock cylinder is correctly engaged by a mechanical key. The PASSLOCK?"¢ system is designed to prevent vehicle theft. This system is similar in concept to the Passkey system. The PASSLOCK?"¢ eliminates the need for a key mounted resistor pellet. The components of this system are as follows:

If the theft light is on there is a problem and a code set. You can try to do reset . Turn the key on , don't try an start the car . Let key on for 10 min. till the light goes out, if it goes out turn ignition off an wait a couple of min. then start the car

Wont start cranks good, acts like no fuel. ran great this morning to work but wouldnt start at quiting time


I have the same car and it did the same thing to me.So what i had to do is unhook the battery for a couple min. because what happens is the car has what is called passlock system on it which cuts off the fuel when the car thinks its being stolen and wont let the car start and the only way to fix is to unhook the batt.

Ok then, from your description and the
make/model/year of the car you have there,
it appears you've reset the VATS.

The car's security immobilizer
reader at the key switch
does not recognize the coded
chip in the ignition key any longer.

You can try to put the key
in the ignition, turn to the on position &
wait at least 10 min like that.
(Do not turn off the key switch before
10 minutes as elapsed!)

Once done, the key is re-programmed and
should allow the fuel injectors to work again.
The car would start now if corrected.

In some cases, the VATS (GM'S VEHICLE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM)
will re learn the code this way, and will then
allow the restart, however if this does not work,
then you can simply tow it to any GM vehicle dealer
to have the service department re code it.

There is a permanent solution though.
Adding the PLJX Self learning Bypass module (59.95)
will bypass the PASSLOCK system in your vehicle
for good. See this at www.PASSLOCK2.com

Ignition keys relearn takes about 30 min to do. 30-Minute Learn Procedure 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not start. 3. Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10 minutes, the light will turn OFF. 4. Turn OFF the ignition switch, and wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK Important: Turn the Ignition Switch OFF. The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. 6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. 7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles. Without a scan tool you may have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself.

Your Passlock may need to relearn the ignition keys, if the ignition lock has gone bad like my in-laws Grand Am Gt, here is what i did so they will not get stranded any more. Buy a Passlock by pass module for around $70.00. You can orderone from GMPASSLOCK.COM in the mean time try resetting the Passlock. Good luck

02 grand am no fuel pressure and security light not on. relay is good

Truck wont crank each time


It sounds to me like that you have several different issues with you vech and on the pass lock system will not cause all the problems listed how ever it will cause the no crank and after five min or 30 min start it is most likely the pass lock sensor unless your truck has a pk3 system (the key will have a + or pk3 stamped on it)If it is a pk3 system then it may be the theft detturent module if ton a pk3 system then most likely a pass lock sensor . Take the vech to some one that can ck for codes and find out all the codes set in the vech. This will tell a whole lot about what is going on with the vech .Im not very good on drivabilty problems. The evap leak and the mis fire will not be related to the pass lock problem.
