Question about 2001 Volvo V70

2001 V70 turbocharger pumping oil out exhaust

Recently had car serviced including a veriable valve solenoid gasket replacement, PCV Box reseal and timing belt replaced (2nd time in less than 6 months)due to oil saturation. Was told by mechanic that crankcase pressure causing seal(s) to fail - on the 1st timing belt replacement had oil leak because of cam sensor seal failure. Less than a week after repairs were done, car suddenly started smoking significantly out of exhaust. Towed to back to the shop and was told that a the turobcharger was taking in oil (metioned something about a bearing) and pumping out exhaust. Is this something that the mechanics should have addressed (visable because of the other work they were doing or checked because of the pressure issues and resulting failures of older parts)? The above made up about half of a $2600 bill and the turbocharger work is going to run no less than $1400.

most prob both, get a new gasket for it and replace that should solve the problem, if not check around the part thats leaking and make sure there is no hair line cracks, but sounds like a bad job did, or it may just need to be tightend up

Most common cause of ticking in these is the oil pick-up seals. Remove the pan and replace the oil pick-up tube seal, the two seals for the tube in the pan and the 2 O-rings on the right side of the pan. And dont use silicone to seal the pan back up, because it WILL leak, I highly recommend the Volvo sealant

The best way to attack this is to have your oil pressure checked. That would rule out a pump problem or the sender issue. If you want the least expensive fix is to just replace the oil pressure sender yourself and then see if the problem goes away. You can also add a thicker oil when you change the oil to see if that solves the problem. A 10W30 oil is thinner than a 10W50. If this helps then the engine or pump may be worn or failing. I hope the cheap fix helps!!

yes,the water pump should have been changed at the same time,BUT,and i keep saying this to all my customers,no garage will do any work that you, the client, dont ask for and if they reccomend it they are trying to rip you off.the original repairperson is not at fault in any way,as you cant see inside the pump to decide when its going to fail.....not what you wanted to hear ,but true.
best advice.is find a good mech and follow him/her around,that way it becomes personal.

Oil leaking from Manifold Gasket bolts


any smoke from the tail pipe.if it is ,it might headgasket leaking from inside the engine or the valve stem.check the PCV system ,it might block it & oil is going to intake system.check the PCV system & the vent hose first.

Replace front crankshaft seal


When you replaced the front seal did you smear a bit of oil in side of the seal because sometimes if you don't you can nick the inner seal.
if the seal is ok the you most probably have a worn crank/cam shaft.

Here's a link on your code.You have spent a ton of money and the dealer would of done it cheaper.I take my vehicles to dealers for oil changes,they scan and will tell me for free what is wrong since I went there for a oil and not a repair job.Then I can fix my self and not be charged for there labor.

Sounds like he is just going to reseal the pan it is very labor intensive and the price id about right as the exhaust has to be dropped down to access the pan and bolts plus the clean up of the mating services if you get it done demand he install the FELPO OS30717R they fixed the problem with the oem gaskets it cost a little more but well worth the money and no future headaches

Hello! #1 question; Is the Check Engine Light (CEL) on? This means the computer has stored a fault and in order to troubleshoot the cause I'll need the code...Take the vehicle to an auto parts store and, for free, they will read the code...Send it to me...

If the CEL is not on; Pull the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve...Give it a shake...If you do not hear the little ball that lives inside rattling around; you have found the fault...Replace PCV valve...

It's very simply to find out if the turbocharger is causing blue smoke from the exhaust vs a blown head gasket. So, remove the turbocharger's compressor inlet centre hose (from the aluminium side of the turbo). Then see if there's in plenty of oil coming out from the hose and from the turbo. I'm 100% convinced that the turbocharger is damaged in your case. You can remove also the exhaust pipe out from the turbocharger, and see if there's a lot of oil coming out.
Repair or replace bad turbocharger with a new one (or with a second hand in good condition one). Good Luck!

WE ARE HAVING PROBLEM FINDING DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE FOR CADILLAC DIVILLE WITH DTCs P0029,P0047,P0137 and P0107


P0029 - Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2
Causes:
- Dirty engine oil
- Low engine oil level
- Exhaust valve control solenoid circuit open or shorted
- Exhaust valve control solenoid circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty exhaust valve control solenoid

Solutions:
- Change oil
- Replace exhaust valve control solenoid

P0047 - Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control A Circuit Low
This vehicle is not equipped with a turbocharger or supercharger if it is a 1994.

P0137 - o2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 2
Causes:
- Sensor circuit harness or connectors is open or shorted
- Rear heated oxygen sensor Bank 1 may be faulty
- Fuel pressure may be faulty
- Fuel injector may be faulty
- Intake air leaks

Solution:
Replacing the O2 Sensor 2 usually takes care of the problem.

P0107 - Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Low Input
Causes:
- Damage harness or connectors
- MAP sensor circuit is open or shorted
- MAP sensor
- Damaged PCM or ECM

Solutions:
- If damage, repair MAP sensor harness or connector
- Replace MAP sensor
- Replace PCM or ECM

sounds like the pcv valve is bad in valve cover. if the pcv valve is bad it will create a pressure in crankcase and oil has to come out some where. check all gaskets. the pcv valve is under 10 dollars, and only about 5 minutes to change.
