How do you know if your struts are bad on a toyota camry?

This is quite difficult to judge, because struts normally degrade slowly and you don't notice the change. If you look at a strut and it is leaking oil, it is easy to decide it needs replacing.

The most popular test method is to bounce one corner of the car and try to judge if it is too bouncy. It may help to compare this with a new car. That is only a gross test though, and may deceive.

Another way is to simply replace the struts at one end when they are fairly old, say 50 000 mi at the front (the front struts wear out first).

Front struts may need replacing, what is the expected cost to replace front struts by a shop?

Depending on your location and what you may need additionally like strut mounts or stabilizer link pins would budget around 300-500 for this type of job.

Broken top bushing on front suspension strut. The wheel drops down when the car is put on a lift for servicei Is this bushing replaceable without replacing the whole strut assembly?

I belive you talking about strut tower bushing.
Yes you can replace it without repl. strut , but you have to take strut apart. Very common on Toyota's.
You need a strut compressor for this job.

Do I need any special tool to replace front strutts and bearring plates on a 2002 Toyota Camry XLE?

Hello wavehogflame: My name is Roger and I will help you. The answer to your question is yes. To change the struts you will need special equipment. Also will need front end alignment as well. The coil spring on the strut is compressed pressure from roughly 600 lbs.psi. to upward of 900lbs.psi. This will cause great bodily harm or death. Please take to some one who is qualified and has the proper tools for the job. Should you need further help please just ask. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

When should I replace the struts on my 2001 camry?

if the car is dipping in the front or on one side, they need replacing. bounce the car from one of the front sides. if it comes up and stays there, the struts are fine. if it continues to bounce a couple of times or more, replace the struts. also if they crackle when they bounce.

I am trying to replace my rear struts on a 2003 Toyota Camry. How do you access the top part of the strut assembly

Don't mess with struts unless you have a strut compression tool. You could get seriously injured. The nut is on top of the tower where the strut attaches.
