If both injectors stop firing this is a bad injector? I know you are the expert this is why I am asking how do I know its not the computer?

  • jruff3374 Apr 22, 2009

I am about to go buy an ecm but if this is the problem would it start back after sitting a while?

  • jruff3374 Apr 23, 2009

I replaced the ecm and after two hours my car shut down again. What could this be?

  • jruff3374 Apr 23, 2009

My 93 caprice just cuts off and the injectors stop firing I ve replaced the fuel pump, filter, strainer and ecm what else could this be

  • jruff3374 Apr 23, 2009

Why do you think it's the crank sensor and where is it located on my car?

  • jruff3374 Apr 23, 2009

Will a bad crank sensor cause the car to run for a while and then turn off?

  • jruff3374 Apr 23, 2009

Will the crank sensor cause this to happen? Does the sensor gradually go bad or does it just go bad all together and the car will not start until replaced?

  • jruff3374 Apr 24, 2009

It happens after you drive for a while. I removed the air filter and casing from around the injectors started my car and watched it run until it cut off. When it stopped the motor died and the injectors fuel flow stopped. I removed one of the spark plug wires stuck a screw drive inside the wire close to the frame and had some one to start the car I was still getting fire and I checked this car doesnt have a crank sensor or crank shaft sensor.

It does look like a carb.

That can be due to a bad wiring to injectors or problem on coils , fuel pump (amperage), sensors, CCT, ECU/PCM problem.

The way to find out is going to a good garage and scanning the injectors. The machine will draw a waveform diagram that can tell you what the problem is.

This is what I need you to do. Run a self diagnostic on it. This is done by jumping the 2 top right holes in the obd port under the dash to the left or directly under the steering wheel. I will go get my book to tell you the codes. this will give us an idea of where to go from here.brb

YOur sensors can go out intermittently. There can only be so many things wrong with your car to do that. Or you can have a loose or burned through O2 sensor or wire. when it get's hot and shorts, it will just kill the engine. One thing I need to know, is it a TBI or a MPFI? TBI looks like a carb, Multi port is on a rail. Which do you have?

When you say your injectors stop firing, is it after driving normally for a while or is straight away as starting from cold engine.
Can you tell me how did you check the injectors on the car?

Hi. this is a malfunctioning injector that will need to be replaced. The cool down you mentioned that you preform, confirms this issue. the injector receives its commands for the injector module via pulse. If the injector assembly is malfunctioning, it will work for a while but, if the temperature becomes to high, the ecm/pcm will shut down the injector.

Simply, locate the failing injector and replace it. this will fix the issue. Also, make sure the wires connected to the new injector are in good condition as well.

If all the injectors are shutting down in unison, this will point to the ECM(engine control module). in this case, test all injector wire harnesses with a ohm meter. if you get abnormal reading from the meter, this will confirm ECM failure and you will have to replace the Computer(ECM) on this vehicle.

I did some additional research and, everything points to a malfunctioning ECM(computer).

Yes. the ECM will cool during the shutdown you mentioned. this will allow the computer to rest itself. the ECM is very smart. it has a safe mode but, if the short or damage is to severe, it will not work very long, as is in your case. it continually shuts down.

I have an 1987 Chevy with throttle body fuel enjection I have a new fuel pump and new fuel filter I have fuel coming up at the throttle body when I crack the lines but the injectors arnt spraying fuel

I suggest changing the pickup in the distributor. This is what fires the injectors. If you have a noid light you can check for pulse at the injector, but my guess is there is nothing signaling the injector to fire.

My van wont start no fuel or spark ?

Sounds like it could be the ignition module in the distributor. You have a throttle body instead of a carb. The injectors get a ground signal from the engine computer when they are supposed to open. The ignition module takes a signal from the pickup coil in the bottom of the distributor and decides when to fire the plugs and also the injectors.
If the injectors and the coil has power, it could be the module or the pickup coil.

How do you change the fuel injector filtor on a 1993 chevy caprice?

First, there is not enough vehicle information posted here to help you with your problem. When you are asking for information on how to repair an engine or an engine accessory, it is prudent to mention which engine your vehicle is equipped with.

Second, I have been in the automotive repair business for 37 years. I have worked on MANY Chevrolet Caprices. I have never heard of a filter on a fuel injector.

My injectors stop spraying while driving.

If the crank sensor is failing it will shut down all fuel and ignition systems via, ecm/pcm modules. its located in the same proximity of the crank shaft pulley and you will see the sensor housing and its wire clips around the outside of the crank shaft pulley.

I can t communicate with you via the regular window because you rated my threads already with a thanks for trying before i could type the crank sensor solution.

Resently ran out of gas now cars running bad / 93 caprice

Change the fuel filter again and if you have fuel injectors, you need to get them sleaned....I believe some of those oil one stop service places will do it. If you have a carb, you need to blow it out....but change that filter....maybe even a few more times if you had that stuff come out the first time.
