Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Transmission lost reverse

My speedometer went out a cpl weeks prior and then I suddenly lost reverse in my 2001 Cherokee (4x4 5.4L) I recieved a code 500 which is a Vehicle Speed Sensor malfunction. I replaced the sensor... still no reverse... still no speedometer &(yes i checked the fuses). Is this one problem? Will it require a rebuild?.... and I also noticed another sensor on the side of the trans, it didnt look good :( BUT I cant find a name or # for it. "LIL" Help? lol

I have a 2001 ford escape 2.0 L 4 Cyl with 5 speed Manual Transmission. Recently had the clutch replaced with in a week the speedometer would be eratic but not all the time then after about a month on...

Definitely not an expert here, but exactly the same symptoms after a clutch replacement. I found one of the wires going to the connector on the harness side of the Vehicle Speed Sensor pulled in two. Can only surmise that during the clutch installation this connector wasn't disconnected and during movement of the transmission to get to the clutch was put under tension causing the failure. I haven't confirmed the solution yet, but pretty sure I'm on the right track.

All the sudden Reverse does not work at all. After driving forward only for a couple of weeks, Reverse reappeared. Transmission fluid is at normal level. The fluid appears is little brown, but not too bad....

Problem could have been an intermittent transmission electrical problem, computer needs to be scanned for an intermittent code, this is the first place to start. If no codes are found and transmission is currently working okay then unfortunately there is no way to check for problem further at this time unless it has a problem again.

2000 jeep cherokee sport - gauges don't work all the time. They may be working and all of a sudden they don't.

We had a similar problem recently where all the gauges went crazy, we disconnected the speedometer cable, cleaned the connection and reconnected it and haven't had the problem again. We had, prior to the problem, done some 4x4ing thru' plenty of mud.

2001 Jeep won't reverse

Depending upon what transmission you have, it could be a bad solenoid or control unit, bad reverse band or servo or a few other things. If you find no external problems, you will need a trans shop to examine it. If rpm drops when reverse is selected that means it's trying to go but has an internal problem.
