I had the same problem with my 2007 cobalt and the problem is that there is a small bar in the shifter that is supposed to hit a microswitch and that bar on mine came out of place and it was not hitting that micro switch to allow the ignition to release the key when the car is in park. what i did was tear the center council apart and pull the whole shift mechonism out and reposition the bar and put it all back together. its a pain and time consuming

That is a security malfunction, it holds the key in because it can't read the key.

Car lock light is on. Engine wont start.

The security,or lock picture icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

Its the ignition lock cylinder it is not reconizing the code on the key sometimes, so it shuts off power to the injectors. The computer thinks someone is trying yo steal the car.GM's PASSLOCK SECURITY SYSTEM.

My 2007 silverado was fine when i parked it last nite..now it wont start..plenty of battery and lights..but no ignition..and the steering wheel is not locked when in park..it will not start in park, or...

The steering wheel will not "lock" until you turn it about 45 degrees from center...this is normal. If your security light is flashing, there is a problem with your security system that is keeping you from starting the engine. Try this: Set the parking brake. Turn the ignition to the "RUN" position and wait about 10 minutes for the security light to stop flashing. When the light stops flashing, crank the engine without turning the key to the off position. If it starts, take the vehicle to get the security system checked. If it doesn't start, tow it. You probably need a new PassKey sensor.

I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 and I can't get the car to start and the key is stuck in the ignition. The battery is fine, lights and radio still work, but the engine won't even turn over. I tried rocking the...

Make sure that your shift lever is all the way into the "Park" position. Failure to have it all the way in park will cause the key to get stuck and the starter to not turn your engine over.

If you are sure that the shifter is all the way in Park. then your key cylinder could be faulty and you are most likely locked out from starting the car by the Security System. With a faulty key cylinder, the Security System "thinks" that someone is trying to steal the car and locks out the starter and the fuel system.

Replacement of the key cylinder requires re-programming of the computer system so that the security system will recognize the new cylinder and allow the car to start.

sounds like the immobiliser, like you did,nt connect the immobiliser block,a cable with 3 wires, look carefully you may not have noticed & plugged it in. all the leads connected to the battery may not be correct. car thinks it,s being stolen.with fords you need to use the original key(red dot on it)to activate security settings, good luck leave key out of ignition, that may work

My car key is stuck in the driver's side door (VW new Beetle).

I assume you have tried juggling and turn ing the key and pulling all at once>>> Type in the security code for the auto locks on the driver door panel it should release the security device in the lock that holds on to fradulent keys (some models have this some dont) if this doesnt work , try unlocing and locking the door using the controls in the car and pulling on the key to try and remove, if the key wont trun any directions remove door panel locate the locking mechinism and use a flat head screw drivce to turn the lil dial o nthe back side to and try to remove the key.. If none of these work, pull really hard straight back dont bend key on lock as it will break off!! becarefull and goold luck.....
hope this will fix'ya
