1995 dodge dakota horn not working

I have a 1995 dodge dakota and the horn does not work when pressing buttons, it only works when pressing on the top of the newly replaced horn relay fuse. What could be the problem and in order to dismantle the steering front do I need to disconnect the airbag?

SOURCE: horn,airbag light,cruise control

ON CERTAIN MINIVANS, THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG MAY BECOME DISABLED DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE CLOCKSPRING, WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE HUB OF THE STEERING WHEEL. Consequence Summary: THIS CONDITION WILL MANIFEST ITSELF THROUGH ILLUMINATION OF THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP, AND COULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN A DRIVER'S AIR BAG OPEN CIRCUIT, IF THE PART IS NOT REPLACED IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. Corrective Summary: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY ON ALL COVERED VEHICLES WITH 70,000 MILES OR LESS. FOR THOSE VEHICLES WITH MORE THAN 70,000 MILES, DAIMLERCHRYSLER WILL OFFER AN EXTENDED LIFETIME WARRANTY UNDER WHICH IT WILL REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING AT NO CHARGE IF IT FAILS. DAIMLERCHRYSLER WILL ALSO REIMBURSE OWNERS WHO HAVE PAID TO HAVE THE CLOCKSPRING REPLACED ON THEIR VEHICLES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 12, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403. A malfunctioning clockspring can also effect your cruise control, radio, wipers, and your horn relay. This can also happen one at a time til none of these are working. The solotion is to get the clockspring replaced . I DO NOT suggest you doing this on your own!

SOURCE: 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan Horn Not Working

The most common problem with this is the clockspring, it is located just under the steering wheel. It will cause the horn not to work, airbag light to come on, and the cruise not to work. There is probably a recall on this. Contact a local dealer to see if the recall applies to your car.

SOURCE: 1997 Dodge Caravan Horn and Airbag light

It's the " clock spring " . Dodge has a lifetime recall / replacement on this part. Somehow it controls the air bag and is tied into the horn and cruise control .

When press the horn on my Dakota i hear clicking noise by the relay box but no sound of a horn

If relay is working then check for voltage at the horn, from horn wire to negative at battery. If voltage is present then u have an issue with ground to the horn. If no voltage is present, check the fuse. 8f voltage is present, check voltage from horn wire to frame, if voltage is present, replace horn

The horn on my 1995 Dodge Dakota does not work. Believe the problem is somewhere in the steering column. What is that part called?

If its in the steering wheel or the column its called a relay, A lot of times, the horns burn out so I would recommend taking an electrical tester, unplugging the wire that simply slides over a metal tong on the horn, taking the tester and putting it in the metal contacts inside the plastic part that slides over the tong and having someone hit the horn and see if the tester lights up, or shows any sign of power. Hope that helps!

Horn and cruise control dont work, what to do?

It is wires wound around in a circle within a plastic housing called a clockspring. The clockspring lives behind the steering wheel and connects your horn, cruise and most importantly the airbag. Usually it is the airbag that is first to quit with a light on the dash coming on.
