I will work with some assumptions here.Your radio has a hole in each corner of it.Use nails and insert into the holes.GENTLY pull radio out and there should be a sticker on the body of the radio with a 4 number code.Write it down and put the radio back into the dash.Hold the scan and mode button in at the same time and the word SAFE will go away. Now,your station preset buttons are the keyboard.Push the #1 preset repeatedly until the first number in your code is displayed.then on to 2 for the 2nd and so on.After you put in your 4 number code, hold in scan and mode again and in about 2 seconds, tunes!!!!!You might get lucky and call your local vw dealer with the VIN of your car. They might have your code on file. Will save you a lot of trouble as the radio is not easy to remove.
best of luck!!!

Its a security code, you need to enter the security code on the radio, but either you or the previous owner have the code, the security code kills the spark to the engine, good luck, i hope you find the code

  • Anonymous Apr 22, 2009

not if you just take it out, one of those wires for the radio goes to the computer in the car, you need to find out which wires it is and bypass the security wiring, i wouldnt be able to tell you which wires they are but if you go to advance auto or something and get a haynes book for that model it will help you, in the troubleshooting section there is probably something about the security code. Good luck!

It wont cut on

the oil light and check engine light wwill stay on with the key in the on position and the vehicle not running. how do you know your fuel pump is working? just because you hear it? it still might not be putting out enough pressure to start the truck. another possible cause is plugs, wires, ignition coils..etc...

2. L standard will only start on a jump start but wont start by key its a 96 volkswagon jetta trek

If everything else works when you turn the ignition switch "on", but the starter will not engage, it could be one of three things:
1) Ignition switch is defective
2) Starter is defective
3) If it is an automatic, the starter interlock may be faulty.

The best way to check the starter is to remove it for testing. Remove the starter (3 bolts) and take it to your local auto parts store for testing. Be careful and support the engine from below with jack stands as one of the starter mounting bolts is also an engine mounting bolt.

If the starter tests OK, then it may be option 2 or 3 (above). If the car is an automatic, try cranking it in "N". This will tell you if there is any sort of starter interlock problem. If this fails, or if the car is not automatic, then the ignition switch is most likely the culprit.

I hope that this information helps!

I had just replaced my starter a couple days ago on my 96 grand jeep cheroke v8, but even before i did i started getting this check battery on the little screen and the check guages light would come on. ...

If the battery voltage gauge goes to zero, it may be a bad connection at the battery.
Batteries generally last an average of only 3 years, but they will go bad gradually until the voltage drop on starting will drop below levels that the car can run the starter.

Try a new battery, they're not too expensive at Walmart or Sears or a local auto parts store.
Try the largest CCA capacity battery you can buy and you won't have regrets, in my experience.

Good luck on this repair.

It was running fine two days ago now it wont start everbody saying its the starter butthe radio lights come on so it coulndnt be the batterry please do anbody have any reall suggestion

starter different from battery. radio lights come on so the battery has at least enough power to turn on the radio. Does it have enough power to supply minimum voltage and amps to the starter? A whole different story here.
Jump it. If it starts its the battery. If not, check: 1) 60a starter fuse, start relay, voltage at starter when attempting to start with key( two people required) and finally, run 12v directly to starter from known good battery to determine if starter/solenoid is good

The starter must have been bad due to the water.

Bad PCM or ignition coil.
