My 89 oldsmobile cutlass ciera 2.8 is sputtering on the highway. it has a pattern especially going 70-75. shakes for 3 seconds, stops for 2. shakes for 3, stops for 2. etc etc. never stops and the time never changes. spark plugs replaced. what else could it be? it also randomly stutters at different lower speeds but nowhere near as consistent on the highway and no particular timing. starts fine for me, never stalls, runs and drives great other than that... help!

Check that the leads are properly spaced and not touching each other. Check the condition of the distributor drive shaft bushes as they may be worn allowing the shaft to move around under the cap

SOURCE: changed spark plugs and wires now car wont start

I know this might be obvious but the obvious is often the problem. Did you replace the coil wire that goes from your coil to the distributor cap? Also, double check to be sure that your wires are connected in the correct order. A little more clarification might help. Does it turn over? Does it just click? When you turn the ignition key then let off does the car clunk or make a wheezing sound?

Check the prrimary and secondary resistance on your coil. Also check the resistance of the plug wires and plug gap.

SOURCE: My 1996 cutlass ciera stalls out sometimes after I

Try the fuel pump Relay. I had the exact same problem and thats all it was. It will eventually stop sending fuel at all. The relay is under the hood on the passenger side front corner. Ther are I think 5 there, the fuel pump relay is all the way to the right looking down into the engine compartment. Hope this Helps
