I need to know how to tighten the serpintine belt. On a 500sl 1990 benz

You need to tighten the idler/tensioner pulley that is o the top right as you look at the belt. There is a lock nut/bolt on the front then a long threaded bolt kind of on top and just behind the pulley. If the belt and pulley or old and this just started making a noise , stop and order a belt and pulley. Once pressure is taken off the old pulley it will usually fall apart.

Wont turn over

Even if the battery cables look new , take them off and use a wire brush to clean them, battery post or mount too! a battery can have a clear gel film on its contacts that you can not see but will prevent a full 12v from reaching the starter, just clean both pos and neg parts that connect to the battery well and you will see.
