Have you installed a new timing belt? If yes then you must do a compression test on each cylinder to verify no piston/valve damage. Your motor is not a freewheeling one. Damage is most likely to occur if your belt has failed.

There is an experience (
that 2.0 litre engine there is enough space between valves and pistons, even the belt goes broken.

So, no worries.

How can I tell if my timing belt broke on a 2001 pt cruiser lights and radio work new battery 2 weeks ago

Your car has an interference engine, which means if the timing belt is broken, the pistons will strike the valves. If your engine turns over and there is no noise of internal metal-to-metal contact, your timing belt is not broken. If your engine does not turn over, and you suspect the timing belt may be broken, remove the valve cover and SLOWLY rotate the crankshaft a few degrees by hand, watching if the camshaft rotates. If the camshaft rotates, the timing belt is not broken.
You provided no information on why you think the timing belt may be broken, although you refer to having good electrical power. Does the starter engage? If not, it has nothing to do with the timing belt. Does the starter engage but the engine doesn't start? If so, timing is way down on the list of things to check. After checking spark, fuel delivery, compression, etc.

2001 pt cruiser 2.4L wife doing 15 miles an hour. timing belt broke. everyone is saying the dealer and alot or shops are lying. That i should be fine with putting a belt on and not have valve or piston...

Try replacing your belt, dont listen to the shops. No way to know for sure but to try it. The piston cant hit the valves, but some of the valves can hit each other if the timing belt breaks. But you may or may not have damaged the valves.

But I would replace the timing belt and try it before I tried anything else. Change the belt and give it a try. I mean if you can do it yourself. If you get a Chiltons manual from Oreillys it will tell you exactly how to chage it. DONT GET THE HAYNES MANUAL FROM AUTOZONE, CHILTONS MANUALS ARE MUCH SUPERIOR.

Your engine is - Water pump driven by timing belt and a Interference engine application, yes you can bend valves if your timing belt breaks

I am unable to replace my timing belt on my 2001 PT Cruiser I have 120,000 miles on my car.....Can it make it to 122,000??? I am trying to get the money together as we speak........Do you know???

some people dont bother to change the belt at all(NOT RECCOMMENDED) so, as long as you dont redline it in every gear,it could go on for a lot longer(i hope...)

The timing belt in my 2001 pt cruiser is broken. Did this cause any damage to the engine? or do we just need to replace the timing belt

Its got damage, bent valves. replace every thing on timing belt, tensioner, pulleys, water pump. The head needs to go to a machine shop and bent valves replaced.

I blew a timing belt while I was driving on the highway 60 miles an hour when It went with a bang, is is quite likely I caused some internal motor damage to the valves and pistons? where can I get info on...

This is a difficult repair. If you have never replaced a timing belt before this will be quite challanging.
You will need several tools, and a few special ones.
You will need to know what to look for in case you have damaged your engine.
Please let me know, and if you still want to try and tackle it yourself, I will give you the info.
