TRANSFER CASE IN A 93 CHEVY 1500

I need to find out what makes my 4 wheel drive shift into nuetral when i put my truck in reverse or when i am driving and hit a bump it shifts as well. It makes a horrible clicking noise. When i have to put my truck in reverse i have to hold the shifter so it doesnt go in to nuetral. any help on this would be great.
thank you,
jackie

It sounds like it is going out, first try trans x, get it at Auto Zone, also check the transmission mounts, drop the tranny pan and check for metal shavings, and be very gentle, or it will be done

Sounds like the transfer case needs to be overhauled, the clicking is the clincher.

My 2000 Chevy silverado 1500 z71 wont move. used 4wd then tried to put back into 2wd it would shift into any gear. Put back in park it makes a grinding noise

Sounds like your transfer case in neutral. You have to engage the transfer case back into gear then shift selector to drive or reverse. When your transfer is in neutral the transmission will not operate. Good luck.

Noise in Reverse

Transfer case would only be if you are in 4 wheel drive. this sounds like a rear end or u joint issues. Get under the truck and grab the drive line, if you are able to turn it more then a 1/4 inch each way bad u joints. If not then check the rear end.

sounds like you have a combonation trans and transfer case issues. if you were running youre truck in four wheel on a hard dry surface, witch is not recomended , the trans probibly ran hot. as for the transfer case, it could be a combination of problems. dash switch/ actuator/vacum switch/ vacum canister witch is under the battery tray. all have to work in unison. service the trans first. if the truck has high miles, add trans conditoner, if you do not, it will slip. then the transfer case. refer to youre owners man for oil specs. youre problems are not uneque as these trucks are notorius for unreiable four wheel actiuation. hope i was some help.

Grinding in and out of 4 wheel drive

You say 'new' truck, 09? or new used? I have had 3 Fords, 3 w/ manual trans. case, if you go into 4x4 Low range, you must come to a complete stop before shifting the trans. case to 4x4 mode, and I always put trans (automatic) in neutral before slipping into 4x4, it engages smoothly, no grinding. 4x4 high range can be put in while moving, but I would let off the gas pedal, shift to 4x4 high range, then resume accelerating. If there is any grinding going on doing it as above, something isn't right. Check the trans. case fluid level also, to make sure that's not an issue.

Noise in front diff

Three probable issues;
1-The transfer case is low or out of fluid.
2-The drive shaft may be out of alignment due to worn front or back U joints (thus the clunk on shift)
3-the shift lever is out of alignment with the shift mechanism on the transmission housing.
