Question about 1992 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

Buick won't move

My mother has a 1992 Buick Park Avenue with 52000 original miles...Yesterday when pulling in the driveway, the car refused to go any further...I tried to find out what is wrong...My first thought was the transmission...I've recently drove the car and transmission was not acting up...No noise, no slipping, etc...The car acts like the parking brake is on...It tries to move forward or reverse but won't budge like your holding the brakes on...I'm clueless...Please help...At this point, I can't even get it out of the garage to have it towed to a shop...

I am thinking it is time for new tranny....Any ideas?

I would look to the brakes first, from your description the trans is transfering power to the drive wheels.Have the brakes ever been done? The car is 17 years old and if the brake system has never been serviced it is possible there is sludge built up from the brake fluid breaking down, the sludge can cause the brake cyliders to stick open.Check the fluid at the master cylinder for color it should be clear and almost a yellowish blue in color,if its kind of brownish and cloudy it has gone bad and may be causing the brakes to stick.Comment back if you need more assitance.

1992 Buick Park Ave. won't start after pressing brake pedal.

sometimes the other switch is to cut out the cruise control when the brake is applied. I would more suspect something in the fuel injection controls such as a mass air flow sensor or throttle "switch." your car is probably too old to have an auxiliary air bypass valve but if it has one look at it as well. good luck
