hi and thanks for your solution but it is definitely something wrong and i been told it could be the hydraulic tappets. i cant get it to a vvw garage as i have just brought it and it has no tax at the mo. any more ideas please

  • del_1 May 08, 2009

thank you for your time. all i can tell you is that it is a tappety sound from the engine and it gets worse once it is warm, from what i can tell it is coming from the middle of the engine but does not sound like the top end or anything. there also is no power loss when i have driven it and it runs fine apart from this noise. and thanks once again

thank you for your time and i will take it to the garage asap. cheers

The FSI engine is a direct injection engine and they can be noisy particulaly on idle ,if you have no other issues like warning lights lack of power and its always been like it then i sugest it is the nature of the beast .this is not ******** i am a vw master tech and have had many a conversation with customers about noisy FSI engines.hope this puts your mind at rest, alternativly go to VW dealer and get them to take a listen to confirm its normal.cheers

I have never known a tappet issue on a FSI engine. The injectors make a loud ticking noise on idle as they inject fuel straight in to the combustion chamber under very high pressure.is this being confused with a tappet problem?.Is there any way you can be more precise about the noise,or maybe disconect the poly v belt to see if the noise goes that would help to narrow it down. There are no common issues though i,m affraid.sorry

  • fusster May 08, 2009

let me know how you get on.

  • fusster May 09, 2009

I had 1 thought last night,The high pressure fuel pump is driven from a lobe on the camshaft,I did have one that the metal shaft that runs on the lobe had worn down and that caused a noise, might be worth removing the high pressure pump to inspect it,you will find it by following the metal pipe that supplies the injector rail back.I know it might be a pain but a trained VW ear may save alot of wasted time.Cheers

What do you do if you put bio diesal in a 2015 versa

if the engine is a petrol engine , you drain the tank and refill with petrol, you may have to bleed the fuel rail but basically it will run a bit rough to start with until all the diesel is flushed from the system then it will settle down
if it is a diesel engine and it is not performing on the bio diesel mix, drain the tank and replace the filter and refill with regular diesel
it may be a bit rough until the system is flushed
If it runs good just use the tank then refill with regular diesel

My 2006 Suzuki Swift just started running really rough all of a sudden.Starts ok and runs but rough & little less power.Could it b timing belt..it has done 150,000 kms

the belt should have been changed at 100.000 kms
At this point I would be looking at faulty injectors as a reason for the rough and less power
I would say that changing the belt now along with idler pulleys , hydraulic adjuster and cam and crank seals will save you big time as you are way overdue if it hasn't been done before

Hi my engine light is on was told to change spark plugs have done that but still on ,we was going to change fuel filter but dont know were it is we have looked in manual can you help thanks

so why not scan it, the CEL glowing means, SCAN ME.
so why not do that, and stop guessing. guessing is expensive.
but the mech said, change plugs, not the Scan tool , no scan tool says that.
first off you never stated which if 10 engines you have in that car.
08 sx4 is a BODY not an engine, so>>>???????
why not scan it and report all DTC error logged.
best is to log driving, but , id bet you dont have a tool
the tool is $9 to $200. your choice.

short list , there are more. lots more. and variances. even VVT.

The epc light comes on the odd time, in my 2004 audi a3. I cannot find the manual. I am interested in knowing what it means?

I am having the same problem on my Audi A4 2004 FSI, lose power whilst driving at speed with the EPC light coming on. Looks like a design fault of some kind with Audi petrol engins, have read a few forums about this but no clear straight answer. Check the link below:

What problem could be causing the engine to run rough and uneven (hesitates) when cold? After few minutes running, it works perfectly smooth.

Petrol or Diesel? If petrol it's probably engine coolant temperature sender and if diesel it could be a defective glow plug or cold start device/pump timing. How you had glow plug draw test done?Is there any smoke and if so what colour?

2000 Focus Zetec-rough idle, very rough under load.

you haven't said if its petrol or diesel so i'm assuming its petrol since your smelling sulfur sounds if you have a misfire causes could be plugs, leads or ign coil i suspect its ign coil these are common to go.
