How do you replace the oxygen sensors

Mostly with any vehicle, they are mounted on the exhaust manifold, or just below it on the exaust pipes. if it`s a V6-V8, there will be one on each side of the engines exaust pipe before the 2 pipes Y together. Then one before the catalytic converter and one after.

I would take it to a auto parts store and get them to scan your check engine OBD II memory for code errors, before spending money. They should pin pint which Oxygen Sensor it is.

To replace, let vehicle cool down enough for the exaust not to be hot. With the vehicle in park, emergency brake on and wheel blocks. Then you can unhook the negative battery cable, Jack up the vehicle enough to reach the Oxygen sensors, always use jack stands for safety. Then find the Oxygen sensor your going to replace. Unhook the electrical connection and the plastic connection to the frame, then remove the old Oxygen sensor. (New ones will have grey anti-sieze on the threads) Screw in the new Oxygen sensor, don`t over tighten, just snug it up like you would a spark plug, the heat will do the rest. Then hook up your electrical connection and secure it to the frame. Making sure your new oxygen sensor wire is not touching the exaust pipe. Then rehook up your negative battery cable.

Things you need- 7/8inch wrench, penetrating oil to losen stuck oxygen sensors, safety glasses

Where are the O2 sensor located on a 1997 Dodge caravan sport' and how many are there?

There are 2 o2 sensors on the caravan upstream+downstream
The downstream sensor is located on the exaust pipe at the
converter. As I don't know what engine you have, the upstream
sensors are located as follows
2.4 on exaust manifold firewall side of engine
3.0 on manifold near alternator
3.3+3.8 center of manifold firewall side

I have a 1981 ford f150 and have a question. why dose the left exaust manifold glow red hot when i run my engine? also, my trucks engine doesn't have a catilick converter.

If it's a V-engine and the other manifold doesn't get red the one that does may draw some air, i.e. the seal between the block and the exhaust is gone. If you don't replace it, the manifold will melt.

Have problem with my hyundai santa fe exaust system 2004 2.4l.

If you are getting exhaust fumes in the engine compartment I advise checking the exhaust manifolds for cracks. When the engine is cold remove the heat shield from the manifold using a 12mm socket and inspect from the top and underneath for any cracking.

Engine will only do 700 rpms

As long as you have fuel pressure and good fire on the ignition system. When you try and give it the gass to rev it up do you hear a wooshing sound from the exaust at all, kind of like it is plugged up. If so replace the catylitic converter, it is plugged up. The exaust manifold will get red hot if you run it for too long also. If it is not plugged up, then I would spend the money and pull the valve cover and see if you have a rounded cam lobe on one of the intake or exaust valves. This keeps the gases from getting out of the motor and holds it back. Sometimes it will also backfire thru the carburator when trying to accelerate the motor. Good luck, RAC
