Which cylinder is cylinder #4 on a ford 350 diesel 7.3 liter

Just below each valve cover you will find a wire harness that has 4 plugs on it. Remove each plug(becareful they get brittle over time). down in each well you will see the glow plug. there is a hex on the glow plugs. unscrew the old plugs and replace. Good Luck

generally the cylinders are marked on the intake area near the head cylinder

Time for a compression check. That is very new to already have a serious problem, but I suppose you could have a cracked ring or head gasket leak.
By the way, diesels require a special compression gauge because they are much higher than gasoline engines. Perhaps you can rent one at Autozone?

Hello morris_valen: My name is Roger and I can help. The fire order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. Number 8 cylinder is the rear plug on the drivers side. The cylinders run front to back on the passenger side as 1-2-3-4- and on the opposite side front to back 5-6-7-8.

well do not no if its an 8cy or 6cy but if 6cy its 142536 if 8cy 13726548 looking at motor 1234is on passengers side 5678 on driver same gose for the six cylinder

On the straight 4.9 liter 6 cylinder the firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 The cylinder from the radiator to the firewall is 1-2-3-4-5-6  The distributor rotates clock wise, (to the right) #1 is towards the brake booster and going clockwise to the right is #5 Ect. 
On the 6.6 liter V8 the firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 The cylinder on the passenger side radiator to firewall 1-2-3-4 The cylinder on the drivers side radiator to the firewall 5-6-7-8 The distributor rotates anti clockwise (to the left) #1 is towards the cylinder #5 going anti clockwise #3 to the left and towards cylinder #1 Ect.
