Oil consumption 97 Toyota Tercel oil consumption problem It is burning 2 litres per 1000km

Thanks for the advice, it has 240k, and I had a feeling that was the ultimate solution. The problem began at 90k where it burned 1litre per 1000km, but very recently it has progressed to 2 litres/800-1000km. My mechanic did an "engine flush"-have you heard of this? It actually helped in the past but not this time-too much buildup over time maybe.
Looking for a cost effective/environmentally sound solution. Any advice is appreciated!
    Nikki

You can try a special additive like RESTORE or something but usually this has to do with the piston rings, and the only way to fix it is an rebuilding the upper part of the engine. How many miles are on the car and how long have you had this problem? It would need repair or replacement. Usually replacement with a used engine is about the same or less then fixing the current engine.
Thank you,
Lee

My toyota 7k efi manual transmission.i changed oil filter, air cleaner spark plugs the fuel consumption is very high.than it was at the begining fuel consumption was 15km/pr litre, its now 9km/litre.

check for codes and data readings. check O2 sensor readings, is the thermostat tired and not working properly, this can cause high fuel consumption. take a close look at who and how the car is being driven.

Loss of engine power and excessive oil consumption

You had the codes read out at a local parts place? Most will do it free.
Oil has to be going some place. If it's not on the road, then I would certainly expect smoke. The performance may have nothing to do with the oil consumption, you should not assume they're connected. I had similar oil loss, turned out to be a leak in the oil filter, only leaked when on the road, not in my garage.

Oil level drops after 2000 kms

sounds about right,in fact thats good, toyota state that oil burn/usage should be about 1/2 litre to every 1000km and will do nothing until it gets to 1 litre every 500km under warranty......remember that as a cars mileage gets higher 5/30 oil is too thin,go to 10/40, then when 1 litre to 1000km is reached go to 20/50.(toyota cars are filled with 10/40 semi synthetic when new.).

My 1997 Hyundai excel has 144000km. I just put in 2 litres of oil 2 weeks ago as the oil light flashed on. Yesterday the oil light flashed on again so i have again put another 2 litres in. i do approx...

if there no leaks , now those older excels had problems with the rear main seals leaking with high milage, but you will see it under the car. also bad valve seals will cause a large oil consumption issue, but often you will see blue/ white smoke out the tailpipe esp on start up.

What is the expect oil usage of a 2004 Passat ie how much oil should it use per 1000km Thanks

In a "perfect world" you should loose none. It is acceptable to loose (burn)
about 1/2 to 3/4 quart in 2,000-2500 miles.

MB300 CE 1991 with 350k. burns 1l/1000km

Your oil usage is too high. Unfortunately, with that kind of miles. the cause is likely an overall wear condition involving cylinder walls, rings , bearings, valve guides/seals etc (all likely more $ than you paid for the vehicle) If it runs well, I'd try to eliminate any external oil leaks wherever possible and practical. Also make sure any pan venting (breathers) are clear so as to avoid positive pressures inside the engine that will tend to push oil out. Then use a "high mileage" oil with a bit of marvel oil added By doing that, you can lower the usage somewhat. When faced with higher than normal oil consumption, people generally begin using "cheap" oil. By doing that, the cheaper oil generally creates more sludge inside and does not protect as well, causing consumption to rise further. You don't want to do that..

4 quarts of oil with a new filter (3.79 litres)

Use genuine Toyota "red" coolant. Not a great idea to use anything other than genuine Toyota coolant. The Toyota coolant prolongs the life of the water pump impeller shaft seal. Get it at a Toyota dealer, mix it 50-50 with water.
