Question about 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

I have a 2004 pontiac grand prix. Sometimes during a hard exceleration I get the reduced engine power lite and the car stalls. usually it will restart after setting for a couple minutes. However twice I had to disconnect the battery wait a few minutes and reconnect to get the vehicle to start. Took it to the dealership and the could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. Same thing happened again to it back the the dealership and they told me I had a leak in the air intake maniflod. Didn't make sence to me so thought I would get another opinion.

My 2004 pontiac grand prix gtp has twice now thrown reduced engine power across my dash and acts like it cant get any gas and comes to a stop. Does anyone know what this might be the first time I figured...

Have the fault codes read as a reduce power message means that something is wrong either in the engine or the gear box. check oil and coolant levels and treat the message seriously as it is intending to stop costly damage

My 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix runs good for about 5 min. Then the tack goes wild and the car starts to try to quit. No check engin lite and no codes.

It could be the crankshaft position sensor. I have a 2001 Grand Prix, and when the crankshaft position sensor went out, the tach would drop to zero, and the car would act like it wanted to stall for about a second.

2004 grand prix no go with traction control light on.

I had the same problem with my car. I cleaned the throttle body and when i installed everything back, the car would throw 2 OBD codes: P0120 at start up and P0507 when it stalled at a red light. Took it to the dealership and they had to install a new throttle body because the throttle position sensor is internal. Cost = $718.00 out the door. Part is about $480 and labor is 1.8 hours at $99.00/hr (bunch of ****). There is only a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty for work from the dealer so I would recommend doing the work yourself if possible. There is only 2 bolts on top, 2 nuts on bottom, 1 electrical connection, and 1 hose clamp.

My 1993 pontiac grand prix with the 3.1 engine stalls when it idles at a stop light but it starts right back up. it has plenty of power. we changed the o2 sensor did the vaccum leaks and ths spark plugs....

The next thing to try in regards to the stalling would be to change out the Throttle Position Sensor this sensor is the usual cause of this symptom.

Take your car to a dealer and tell them to "clean the throttle body" Known problem for this year. It will solve your issue.
