I have a 1996 Honda Civic LX automatic. I put the car into park and the gear shift locked into park, tried to take the key out of the ignition but it is locked in place somehow and cant get it out. I can turn the car off but can't get the key out. At the same time, the Gear shifter is now stuck, seems to be locked into position and the button won't depress so i can take it out of park. So, both the gear is stuck and my ingnition key is stuck inside the ignition. Car can turn on and runs. I already tried using another key to push into the ''shift lock release'' hole but makes no difference.

SOURCE: My shift release lock is stuck

the gear shift lock probably needs wd-40 squirted into the assy on the gear shift knob if that doesnt work you may need to take it off and spray it, on thekey not working, when you try to turn the key, move the steering wheel either way and see if the key will turn then, sometimes the wheel will be in a tight lock position

SOURCE: 94 honda accord hard to shift from park

You seem to have two (2) separate problems one may be a BAD brake light switch this switch is mounted at the top of BRAKE pedal and control the locking mechanism on gear shifter(safety component-for example if a kid is sitting in seat with vehicle running he/she will NOT be able to put vehicle in gear without stepping on brake). The other problem is a BAD shifter cable-this cable moves the selector in the transmission when you move shift knob. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

SOURCE: replacing the hood release cable.

When you open the hood, remove the plastic clips. they're should be around 5 or 6 of them. after that they're are 2 10mm screws on the bottom of your car. remove those. After you remove those. Then at the end where the fender connects to the bumper on both sides they're are 2 phillip screws.

SOURCE: Shifting Gear is Stuck in ''Park'' position

u will need to check and make sure the brake lights work, the shifter is tied to the brake light switch, if the brake lights don't work or the brake pedal is not pushed a gear shifter lock out is engaged, this is a Federally mandated safety feature.

What make vehicle ? Most all vehicles have a safety system .Don't try an force anything you'll break it !
Electronic Park Lock (EPL)/Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator: If the vehicle is equipped with automatic transmission and a floor mounted console gear shift, it has an ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator purpose is to prevent the ignition key from being turned to the OFF position when the transmission is in any position other than PARK and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of an ignition lock cylinder control actuator, and a park position switch that is located in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator contains a pin that is spring loaded to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when the vehicle transmission is not in the PARK position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the PARK position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column. They also have this on column mounted shifters !

My honda civic model 2007 1.8 exi automatic key is not switching on

Most likely the gear stick is not detecting the Park position. Try to shift the gear stick back and forth in the track and put it back in Park position. If this does not work then check if the steering lock is not stuck. Move the steering wheel left and right a few times and see if the ignition key moves. Otherwise a trip to the mechanic.

Shift lock release honda civic 2008

Most likely you have a problem with the shift interlock solenoid located under the shifter. It gets its signal from the brake switch every time its pressed. If your brake lights come on when brake pedal is pressed, then you can assume the brake switch is o.k.

Car wont shift

there is a switch on the brake pedal that needs replacing. it tells the transmission the brake is applied. you can take it apart and clean the contacts but I would just replace. should fix your problem as long as it is just the shifter hangs. It wont cure shifting problems while acclerating decelerating. just wanted to make sure I understood what you were saying.

Car will start but gear shift is locked

follow instructions in manual for SHIFTLOCK RELEASE

Turn off car.
Engage Parking Break
Take ignition key and put into shift lock release slot (near gear shift)
Push down on key and at same time MOVE gear shift to neutral.
Remove key, start car as normal and disengage parking break...

good to go.... mechanic can replace/repair if this is an ongoing issue: $85 I read somewhere...but heard it's not hard to do yourself for $35 someone else wrote.

Goodluck
