Hello sdarang, I would recommend checking the blower final stage. You will need to remove the carpet strip on the center console on the passenger side, and the plastic trim panel underneath the glove box. The final stage is located on the a/c heater case toward the fire wall and near the bottem of the case. The connector is trapazoid shaped and has about 5 wires in it. The final stage has been updated with a more reliable design in about 2002/2003.

Heater working intermittently

Dec 18, 2013 | Pontiac Grand Prix Cars & Trucks

1992 chevy C1500: Heat works on low speed, no medium, and high only works intermittantly.

On any other vehicle it sounds like the blower fan switch.
The fan switch provides power or ground to the resistor and there would be a high speed blower relay to bypass the resistor.
But in your case the fan switch is part of the controller.
I don't have a diagram for a 92 but the 94 model shows relays for low medium and high speeds. Each relay gets power from a fuseable link. The high relay gets power thru the low relay if the low relay is not engaged.
If you have the model with 3 relays you may need to check them.

01- Dodge Caravan AC Heater Control it only works on high none of the speeds work when I rotate the switch from low to high. Is this a swith problem or a motor problem?

Most likely neither. The most common cause is that an electrical device called the blower motor resister block, has failed. This device provides all the slower speeds. It is generally mounted in the HVAC [Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning] box, very close to the blower motor. FYI, we mechanics call the fan motor inside the cabin the blower motor. The electric fan motor behind the radiator is called the cooling fan motor.
If the resistor block is OK, then you have either a bad fan speed switch or a melted electrical connector at that switch. 95% of the time, the resister block is the problem.

01 grand.prix ac fan switch only works on high. has a duel temp controller when you turn fan off the only way fan comes back on is to move the temp controller levers

When the Blower Motor Resistor (controls blower speeds) goes bad, the blower motor works only on HIGH SPEED. REPLACE IT.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR Removal & Installation
  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove right lower instrument panel insulator panel.
  • Disconnect blower resistor connector located behind right side of dash.
  • Remove blower resistor screws and blower resistor.
To install, reverse removal procedure
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

2001 Chev Cavalier blower fan intermittent

The power connection to the fan motor on these is known to overheat and cause a bad connection. The fan motor is above the passengers feet.Next time the fan motor will not come on, switch the selector to high and wack the bottom of the dash above the passengers feet.If the motor does come on at that time, you may need a replacement fan motor and connector.REPLACE the fan speed resistor board when replacing the fan motor, which is right behind the fan motor.

How to fix 1999 lincoln TC heater/AC fan speed. Speed is intermittent or not blowing at all. Fan sometimes blows at full speed then may start to turn on and off. Sometimes it does not blow at all.

You have a problem with the resistors on your blower motor. 95% of AC/Heater blower motors are located under the glove box in the passanger foot well. When you remove the motor you should see a resistor plate. Resistors are not servicable and will need to be replaced. This is a relatively cheap part, that you can replace yourself if your handy, if not take it to your local tech.

Intermittent Heater Fan

ProTip: Your car is known as an "E36" body style. If you're Googling problems and you want to get to high-quality answers from people who own the same car and have probably dealt with your same problem, search for your symptom using the term "E36".

The classic symptom of a blower resistor failure is that the fan works on the highest speed, but not on some or all lower speeds. This is because the blower resistor is bypassed on the highest speed. You say your fan is intermittent on the highest speed, so it's unlikely to be the blower resistor.

If you have a "display" on your climate control (versus three large rotary knobs and no display), then your car also has something called a "Final Stage Unit" which is an electronic part that the system uses to change the motor speed. You may not even have a blower resistor in this case.

It is possible that the motor itself is bad, but generally these motors fail by becoming noisy, or they sieze up, or die altogether. They don't typically start and stop randomly. However, you can test this by connecting a test light or voltmeter to the motor when the problem is occurring. If there's 12vdc there but the motor isn't running, then your motor is bad. If there is no power there when there should be (i.e. fan is turned on), then the problem is elsewhere.

Or you can take a gamble and replace the final stage unit. Google "E36 Final Stage Unit" and you will find step by step procedures.
