sounds like you need a trans rebuild over drive and second ard the first to go out that leavrs you with first and third but you will never get it out of first as far as reverse that is what is left when you loose first reverse dosent go thru the valve body

When put my automatic 2001 Saturn SL1 into reverse it makes a Loud clunk noise before it reverses also it clunks before accelerating into the next gears..? why?

2001 Saturn SL1. Transmission (automatic) shifts hard when putting it in gear and every gear there after. The only codes I get is PO442 and PO410. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MY 95 SATRUN SL2 SHIFTS HARD JUST HAVING PUT A

It's possible, especially if the used trans sat unused for a while. When you change the filter, make sure that the trans has fresh, proper fluid.

THE TRANS WHEN HOT SOMETIMES SHIFTS HARD BUT NOT ALL THE TIME COULD THIS BE A BAD SHIFT SOLENOID ?

No it could be a bad TPS or EPC valve.
Check TPS (throttle position sensor) for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If the response is jumpy or erratic at all, replace TPS. If not, your EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid failed or has a dirty screen. Easy fix in pan. Fix as soon as possible or hard parts will eventually break.
Before guessing at transmission problems, check the fluid level (car warmed up, engine running in Park on level ground) and have the PCM scanned for trouble codes FIRST.
Secondly, put a line pressure gauge (or visit a local trans shop) on the pressure test port and go for a drive to verify proper line pressure. Base pressure at idle in P,N,OD should be around 70psi and around 140psi in R. Max line pressure should be at least 190psi at WOT in 1st or 2nd, 225psi is optimum. If base pressure is low, trans or pump is worn out. If max pressure is low, check EPC solenoid. If reverse is slow to engage, and line pressure does not come up to at least 130psi in reverse, replace the boost valve with a Transgo 0.500" boost valve (easy fix in pan).
Thank you for using Fixya and good luck. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your truck running 100% again soon.

Shifts hard only some times when cold or hot from 3rd to over drive the truck has 130,000 miles and is a 2000 chevy silverado 2500 6.0L

1-2 shift is delayed and harsh, may not shift into OD: Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, replace or EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid failed. Easy fix in pan. Fix as soon as possible or hard parts will eventually break. Start with the simple and check the transmission fluid level and condition.Secondly, put a line pressure gauge (or visit a local trans shop) on the pressure test port and go for a drive to verify proper line pressure.
No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Good luck and keep me posted.

2001 ESPACE 2.0L AUTO NO REVERSE HELP PLEASE

your trans has lectronic controls to operate the shifting of your trans. If there is a defect, a fault code will be stored in the computer, called a DTC. You need to have someone with a scan tool check for the fault code. It is likely a solenoid that is not working or stuck.

Get the codes first. Autozone can run the test for free on engines, maybe trans codes too. Call your local Autozone or big parts store and ask them.

----------
SECTION 307-01: Automatic Transaxle/Transmission 2001 Escape Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Transaxle Description The CD4E automatic transaxle is a four-speed, front wheel drive automatic transaxle with electronic controls for:
  • Electronic pressure control (EPC) solenoid for shift quality.
  • Shift scheduling.
  • 3-2 shift timing.
  • Coast braking.
  • Torque converter clutch control.
The transaxle features a four element torque converter with a torque clutch and a geartrain that includes:
  • Compound planetary gearset.
  • Chain drive.
  • Planetary gearset final drive.
  • Pinion and side gear differential.
The hydraulic control system of the transaxle has five solenoids that control:
  • Shift feel, through line pressure control.
  • Shift scheduling, through shift valve positioning control.
  • Modulated application of the torque converter clutch.
  • Timing of 3-2 shifts.
  • Engine braking during coast operation.
----------------------------
Solenoid Valve Body Assembly The solenoid valve body assembly contains the transmission fluid temperature sensor (TFT) sensor, as well as five PCM controlled output devices:
  • Electronic pressure control (EPC) solenoid.
  • Shift solenoid A (SSA).
  • Shift solenoid B (SSB).
  • 3-2 timing/coast clutch solenoid (3-2 T/CCS).
  • Torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid.
---------------------------------
You may need your PCM, Powertrain Control Module reflashed by a Ford Dealer.
Try disconnecting your battery for 1/2 hour and then reconnect and see what happens. It will run a little rough and shfit hard until it relearns your engine/trans characteristics.
Let us know results of tests and DTC codes if you get them.

1991 3.3L Plymouth Voyager, Transmission temp sticks in first.

John, this sounds like a valve hanging up in the valve body. The car shifts when the govenor pressure overcomes throttle valve pressure in this valve body.

What is the condition of the fluid? Is it at all dark or grey, does it smell burnt? It should be a nice light pink. If not, have the fluild and filter for the trans changed. This may take care of the problem.

If the oil is really burnt, you are at the end of the life of the clutches and you are looking at a complete trans rebuild. If the oil is ok, a trans shop should be able to take just the valve body down, clean it and eliminate the problem without overhauling the entire transmission

good luck

Transmission will not shift from second to third all other gears shift including reverse, there is no passing gear shift

THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED AFTER I DETERMINED IT WAS A STUCK VA,VE IN THE VALVE BODY. I TAPPED THE TRANSMISSIN WITH A HAMMER ALL AROUND AND DROVE THE CAR EXCESSIVELY HARD TO MAKE ABRUT HARD SHIFT CHANGES, THE VALVE BECOME UNSTUCT, AND TRANSMISSION SHIFTED LIKE ALWAYS I THEN HAD THE TRANSMISSIN SERVICED WITH NEW FILTER AND TRANSMISSION FLUID. ( END OF PROBLEM )
