Question about 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport
When driving up hill, depending on how long the incline,it slows down considerable to about 20mph or less.whats wrong
I had the same issue. Going uphill at 50 MPH my Montero Sport would shudder and slow to about 20MPH. It worked ok when the road was level. I thought it was the transmission but it checked out ok. I had new plugs and wire sets so I changed one of the coils. It didn't help. In despiration I bought a good set of wires and plugs. When I changed them I noticed that on one side of the engine my valve cover had leaked and now there was oil around all 3 plugs. I replaced the valve cover gasket. When I went up the same hill that was giving me problems everything worked great.
Side note: In order to remove the valve cover gasket which had been petrofied I needed a small propane torch to heat it up and remove it. Good Luck

First thing I'd do is replace the fuel filter. If the car runs fine on level ground or downhill but struggles uphill, it's usually because a clogged filter isn't allowing enough fuel through to satisfy the engine's demand for enough to keep you at speed going uphill. Try that out - it's an inexpensive part and is usually the cause of your symptoms.
