Question about 1998 Nissan Sentra

Alternator belt I just replaced alternator..Need to replace alt. belt but there is a different belt in way and cant figure out how to remove that one...i sure could use diagrams or real pictures for both belts...Help????

The other belt has a tensioner and is located under the ac compressor. It takes a 8mm bolt to loosen it.

Drive Belt Replacement


Removal Procedure

Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .

Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .

Remove the engine mount strut bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement - Right Side .

Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

Remove the engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side .

Remove the right side engine mount bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement - Right Side .

Lower the vehicle.


Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the drive belt tension.

Slide the drive belt off of the belt idler pulley (1).

Slowly release the drive belt tensioner.

Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive pulleys.

1998 Isuzu trooper 3.5 alternator replace


step one remove battery neg lug .
the above video (of book?) is wrong.
the belt tension-ing step was skipped.

remove belt steps remove alt. wiring. remove alternator (bolts) it falls free. replace it , reverse steps above belt back tension belt. battery cable back. test run. charge/BAT lamp off?
see wrench below, turn it CW.
this releases the spring tension and belt comes off
to put back, do same and put on belt and release wrench.

Alternator change


LOOSEN BOLT ON TOP OF ALT, REMOVE BELT BY USING 15MM ON TENSIONER, 2 BOLTS ON ALTERNATOR, MIGHT HAVE TO TAKE OFF A FEW THINGS IN THE WAY. WIGGLE IT OUT, REMOVE TOP BOLT TO WIRE, REPLACE ON NEW ALT, PUT BACK INTO PLACE 2 BOLTS IN AND BELT ON, AND DONE

Im trying to remove my altenator on my 1996 Ford Explorer 4.0 liter motor, but I cant even get to the tensioner pulley. It seems impossible.


One may need to get a breaker bar or a pulley tensioner wrench set from your local auto parts store to easily reach the tensioner pulley. Sometimes at places like Autozone and Advance Auto Parts the tool set can be purchased and returned, essentially, borrowing the tool set from them.
What tool are you using to release the tension from the belt?
--- REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. After disconnecting the battery and removing the drive belt, unplug the single wire connector . . . 89682p01.jpg
    . . . then the multi-wire connector from the back of the alternator - integral regulator units lack the single wire 89682p03.jpg
    If the push-on connectors are difficult to remove, use a small pick to disengage the connector latch 89682p02.jpg
    Unbolt the battery (B+) lead from the back of the alternator . . . 89682p04.jpg

  3. Label and disengage all of the wiring connectors from the alternator. To disconnect push-on type terminals, disengage the lock tab and pull straight off.
  4. Remove the alternator bolts, then remove the alternator from the engine . . . then remove the alternator mounting bolts 89682p05.jpg
    Remove the alternator from its mounting bracket 89682p06.jpg
    To install:
  5. Position the alternator on the engine.
  6. Install the alternator mounting bolts. On 3.8L and 5.0L engines, tighten the upper bolt to 16-21 ft. lbs. (21-29 Nm) and the lower bolt to 30-40 ft. lbs. (40-55 Nm). On 4.6L engines, tighten both bolts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
  7. On 4.6L engines, install the alternator mounting bracket and bolts. Tighten the bolts to 71-106 inch lbs. (8-12 Nm).
  8. Install the accessory drive belt. Ensure that the drive belt is properly installed on the pulleys before starting the engine.
  9. Attach all engine wiring harness connectors to the alternator.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.

I need to replace my alternator


You need to first take off youre serptine belt. Inspect that and generally its a good idea to replace. Next there is a electrical connection on the alternator. DISCONNECT the battery FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then disconnect the connection on the alternator, there are a couple of bolts that attach the alternator to the engine. and then simply bolt on the new one, re-attach the electrical connection and then re-install the (new) belt.

Bad alternator


the alt is on your fan belt but not sure if it's top or bottom of your engine if it's the top then you might be able to loosen your belt tensioner remove the belt and unbolt the alt, mark all wires both on car and old alt, it really helps when refitting the new 1. then reversing the process to fit the new alt. if it's bottom of your engine then you might need to lift the engine, a lot of work.

Bad alternator


Disconnect the negative clamp on the battery. Remove the bolt on the adjustment arm (the one with the slot) of the alternator. Loosen the pivot bolt at the bottom of the Alt. Swing the alt inward to loosen the belt. Take the belt of the pulley. Take off the wires noting where they attach. Remove the pivot bolt. You should be able to take the alt off now. Reverse the sequence but when adjusting the belt tension pry the side of the alternator with a bar so the belt can only be deflected about three quarters of an inch. Tighten the adjustment bolt. Don't over tighten the belt. It'll prematurely wear your bearings. Don't under tighten. It'll squeal.

How to Replace alternator on 1999 Chevy Tracker


1; remove neg. batttery terminal.
2:remove all wires from alterator and the connector.
3: release the belt tension buy loosing all bolts on front brackets of the alternator.
4: press on alternator until it swings toward the block
5: remove belt on ALT.
6: remove all bolts holding it on.
7. remove alternator.

Replacing the alternator belt on 2001 kia spectra


Then you don't take anything off. There will be a spring loaded idler that tensions the serpentine belt. Take a socket or long 12 point wrench and attach to the center bolt of the tensioner, then rotate the idler wheel away from the belt, take the belt off. Slowly release the spring tension of the idler.
The 2nd belt should be set up the same way.

disconnect batt.remove air inlet tube over alt.remove serpintine belt.remove the alt bolts 2 in frt,2 or 3 in bracket on back.disconnect power wire + plug.change alt.reverse procedure to install.easy job.
