Oh, forgot to mention, with the rear trans-axle, just for information purposes, there is a video on youtube that you can replace the differential gears with better gears, can't remember if it was from a jeep or what have you but if you do a youtube search on your kia's differential you will find it. Just something to consider as the Kia can be problematic in this area as well, and since I am referring to an 02 model which is very old now and with many problems you will find lots of them in your local scrap-yards. I also suggest www.kijiji.com for services and parts from local and small scrapyards and many more. Try finding the free stuff first maybe.

Ur sikcro rings are badly worn the only way is to repair gear box,or get replacement box, if ur good u could change gear by double de clutching , if u are saying that gears are noisey after changing then u need a new gear box as new gears are very exspencive

Syncro mesh gears, they are in between gears and the ends grab the faster moving gears and mesh them into the slower moving ones sort of as a guide. If you miss your gears too many times the ends wear out and you have trouble getting into gears. My sportage made a grinding sound and to find that the rear end was dry and I had to replace the whole thing. I also dropped a bit of fluid from the Transaxle for the 4 wheel drive and found many many small bits of filings. I never could get it into 4 wheel drive and drove it that way.

2001 Nissan Xterra 5 speed manual 4x4 wont won't shift into 2nd, 4th, or reverse.

Probably issues with Shift Solenoids. You need a transmission specialist or an auto electrician with a pro grade bi-directional scan tool computer that can tell the solenoids to operate and confirm that they did. Or it is the powertrain module that is at fault.

2002 chevy truck 5 speed 1st,2nd an 3rd gear grinds or rough, 4th an 5th are fine

Either your syncro's are out or your clutch and throwout bearing need to be replaced. Normally higher gears will shipt easier. You need to chech for a grinding sound or howling when you engage the clutch.

It is a 5 speed manual transmission? If it is noisey in all gears except for 4th, then the problem is countershaft bearings.
