My 2001 f250 when shifting out of overdrive its not a solid shift! it seems to flutter into overdrive. the truck has 75000 original miles, 1 owner. under extreme acceleration it shifts fine.

Has the trans ever been serviced? it should have the fluid and filter changed every 60,000 miles, this may help if it hasn't been done, also check for clutch mud in the pan of the trans..

Once again, not enough information given. How many miles on unit? When you say does not downshift do you mean when you press hard on accelerator pedal, or when you slow down? When you say does not shift into overdrive do you mean high gear or torque converter does not lock? The cars are know for transmission problems and while sometimes you get lucky, usually they require a rebuild or replacement. How often do you replace the fluid and filter?
Is your tow/haul button on? If not, it could be activated erroneously. It'll keep it from shifting into overdrive and locking the torque converter, and also keeps the transmission from shifting more often. If this isn't the issue, then you'll have to look into your computer, as the transmission shifting is controlled by the computer. The transmissions were the weak points on these trucks; only good for max 200000 miles, so if you're getting close, keep that in mind.
sorry to say this trans has to be removed and rebuilt seems like od clutches burnt out-do you tow heavy trailer with truck as you have to tow with od off(push button on shifter)
This is going to be a shift solonoid problem. they are located on the bottom of the trans inside the trans pan. I would have it checked soon before it does internal damage will save you a lot of money.
your overdrive clutch hub has gone out/worn out. It can be replaced or you could have the whole transmission re-built or replaced with a low mileage one from the salvage yard , etc at a lower cost..(which is what I did) This is common on these trannys.
