Question about 2001 Hyundai XG300
The remote (a switch next to the trunk remote) does not open the fuel door. I can only open the fuel door if I open the trunk and pull a thin emergency cable next to the CD carousel.
How do I fix this? Is it an electrical or mechanical problem, or is it both?
Might be both. Often the problem is in the control switch itself. You can check this by removing the door panel to access the electrical wiring to the switch, then jumper the two wires of the control switch to see if the fuel door solenoid operates and the door opens - if it does, the switch is the problem. If it doesn't, Go to http://www.hmaservice.com/ and register (vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you'll have access to technical information (manuals, wiring diagrams, service bulletins, etc) about your vehicle. Hope this helps.
