While driving my daughter's 2009 Hyundai Sonata with an automatic transmission today, I felt a jerk, but the vehicle kept working. When I came to a stop and attempted to put the car in Park, it would not go past the Neutral position - i.e. would not go into reverse or park. I put it in Neutral on a level service, put the parking break on and checked the transmission fluid, which was fine. Of course I can't get the keys out because it won't go into park. The vehicle is serviced regularly and has about 30,000 miles.

Thank you for your solutions. It turned out to be the break switch. When it broke, the vehicle did not recognize that the brake was engaged when I tried to put it into Park or Reverse. Thankfully, it was covered under the warranty by Hyundai.

Check your cable at the trans. And see if it has not loosen up and is not seat right.

SOURCE: Won't shift out of park

Look to see if the brake lights work. If they do not come on when the brke pedal is depressed, the fuse may be blown. The brake electrical circuit also controls the shift interlock. You can take the vehicle out of park manually by removing the small square trim tab by the shifter, and pressing the button under it.

SOURCE: 01 VW Jetta Vibration Problem

Check the motor mounts. They might be worn or loose which can cause vibration felt when the engine is reved up or running at higher rpms than at idle.

2011 Hyundai Sonata drove through a puddle today and the check engine light was blinking and the car started jerking pulled over and left the car is it safe to drive it back to my house

It's possible you may have caused some internal damage due to water being introduced to the engine via the intake.

Have you tried to start the vehicle since you shut it off?

I have a 2009 hyundai sonata v6 should I have the auto transmission flushed. I have been told I would have problems after?

Transmission services are part of routine maintenence. Flushing the system on a high mileage vehicle where the fluid has been neglected can cause issues as it stirs up and removes deposits of varnish and worn band/clutch debris through out the system. Most vehicles are usually drain and fill. Others are pan removal with filter and fluid change. Not many companies still do "flushes" but will recommend one of the above services be performed during routine maintenence

2009 Hyundai accent jerks when I put it in reverse or drive sometimes. What could be the problem

If I'm correct when you say **** your referring to a clunk or lift felt when you put in gear. This would most likely be either a broken transmission or motor mount.

My wife and I bought a 2009 Hyundai Accent in August of 2009. Since new the car has made weird transmission sounds while idle in gear, or reversing slowly. The car also shakes during the latter once in a...

In your owners manual there is a phone number to file a complaint to the corporation. Do that first of all. I owned a Hyundai that did very strange things although I had strange braking problems which was repaired at a shop of my preference and was reimbursed.
The problem with yours has to be an internal transmission problem. Nothing will be found unless the transmission is removed and completely torn apart for inspection. More than likely a brass bushing is egged out making the trans to act so eractic
