Just had the radiort and thermostat pulled from my 2002 jeep grand cherokee. after driving for 30 min or so...the water in the coolant resevoir is bubbling hot and the temp hand starts to overheat.

When the radiator and/thermostat is replaced in a Jeep, the system needs to be "burped" of any air let into the system. Park the vehicle on ramps or an incline with the front end pointed up. Remove the radiator cap and run the engine. If there is air in the engine, bubbles will escape from the radiator cap (which is now the highest point). Watch the temp carefully while doing this for overheating. If it still overheats, my best inclination is that the thermostat itself was installed backwards and there is no flow. This is easy to do if not paying close attention, it will fit either way. Could also be a bad thermostat. If the burping doesn't work, install a new thermostat paying close attention to flow direction.

Car overheating and engine light on

well, driving it 30 minutes after it over heated might have cause serious engine damage, warped head, and other bad engine wear, let the engine cool down park it in a level place and check the fluids, if the water has a milky substance in it then you have a bad problem, if the oil is low then check for leaks, check the transmission fluid for proper fluid level and that could stop the hard shifting.

the smoking could be coming from the fluids that leaked out and when they get hot will start smoking, antifreeze residue will smoke for a short time, it might just need to burn off

Water in oil but have a intake water leak under intake

Hey you have a head gasket failure, stop driving and get it fixed. I had a 1999 grand am and years down the road I had water in the oil, mechanic said it was the intake gasket, 1600 dollars later and I sold the car to escape the problems with grand ams, the water is a milky color in the oil, this means there is a breach near the pistons and your colant line and thats where you water and oil mix sometimes cause you engine to overheat and sometimes not able to drive.

91 toyota 4x4 22re overheats on highway, but not at idle.

original issue sounded like thermostat but now that you have lost power i would have to say thermostat, blown head gasket, and warped head

to check thermostat find and remove place in pot of boiling water the see if it opens, then to ice water to check if closes.

the only way i know to check headgasket and head is to check oil and water. oil will have water in it, and water iw have oil in it
