Question about 2004 Pontiac Sunfire

1 Answer

Oil leak Have a 2004 Pontiac sunfire. Have leak on right side of engine (above the cylinder head gasket). Appears to be coming from oval shape plate just above hoses. Is there a gasket in this area that may be causing the leak to avoid removing cylinder head for fixing?

Thanks for the help but I think we have a misunderstanding. I probably did not explain properly. Looking at engine from top and to right of engine just below fuel pump is the plastic plate. I now know that this is normally where the evr is located. In the meantime can you tell me if there should be a gasket in between the fuel pump and the cam? The pump attaches on to cam with two long bolts. The leak seems to be coming from here and dripping down on to cover. Anyone familiar with this?

The round oval shaped object in question should be the canister where your oil filter goes ,yes there is a gasket on the inside that may have been broke or left off on your last oil change

Our 2004 Isuzu Rodeo has developed a coolant leak. The leak appears to be around or above a little panel or plate immediately behind the oil pan? Cannot find any other source. What is inside the littl

You will have to clarify behind the oil pan. Front of engine towards fan. Rear of engine transmission side. Or above the pan towards engine side. If there is coolant leaking from behind the engine (between the engine and trans) and is not running down from above eg head gasket or hose connection, chances are good that there is a frost plug leaking on the rear of the block.

Severe oil leak

It could be a bad oil pressure sending unit, valve cover gasket, timing chain cover gasket or oil pan gasket. If there's white smoke coming out of the exhaust it could have a blown head gasket but it's not a common problem with that engine.

you could have a bad intake gasket that is allowing coolant to go into oil. if the head gasket is good then the other thing it could be is a crack in the engine.

2002 sunfire ecotec blowing out oil from front of engine

The front of engine is usually where the serpentine belt is located. The side of the engine toward the front of vehicle is different. I'm not trying to split hairs, Just trying to understand? Is it coming out in the area of the belt?
When you had it on the ramps, was the engine running? One thought is too much crankcase pressure?
There is, the oil filter could leak, oil pan gasket, head gasket. Is there oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil? It's tough to find a leak if it isn't leaking when you check it.

Replaced thermostat on pontiac sunfire now there's smoke coming from coolant tank

Sounds like you have a leaking head gasket or damage to the engine from when it overheated.
A leaking head gasket can cause compression to leak into the cooling system and pull coolant into the cylinders which is burned out the exhaust. It does not have to leak into the oil.
A shop would check for exhaust gas in the cooling system and run a compression test on the cylinders.

1997 2,4 sunfire cylinders 2 3 misfire. coil has been replaced, plugs & fuel pressure are good, and cad converter has been dropped..was melted almost shut but now fixed. what do i check now?

I would suspect a head gasket or head problem.. the catalytic converter being plugged causes heat build up in the engine and overheating in the engine can cause failure of the head hasket or head itself. The reason your cylinders are misfiring could be water leaking from a water port in the head and into the cylinder which would cause the cylinder not to fire..there might be some steamy vapor coming coming out of the exhaust if that is happening

1996 Pontiac Sunfire engine shakes and acts like it wants the shut off when at stop light.

Sounds like you have a bad cylinder...
This could be due to a number of reasons...
No spark at one cylinder, due to a bad spark plug, coil, or wire.
No fuel due to a bad injector
Bad cylinder with low or no compression

Ok, check the head gaskets for damage and the valve cover gaskets as well. replace any gaskets that are visibly worn. check the oil pressure switch as well. this is a leak spot.
