I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.9 360. i am having some trouble with idling, 3 days ago the muffler was broke off and it has a cat and straight pipes now. yesterday the truck would spit and sputer and now today it will not idle without gas. there is a collant problem as well, i know some collant got on the airfilter so im thinking its a sensor and the exhaust. pleas tell me which sensor to remove and clean and where it is Thank you Chad
IAC or idle air control behind the throttle body may be at fault. any check engine light on? Advance Auto will diagnose check engine light for free.
If your radiator is not getting hot then you don't have any circulation. The water pump is responsible for circulation. When you say that you sealed it where did you seal it?
There is a weep-hole on the bottom of the water pump letting you know it has failed when it leaks from the hole. Sounds like your water pump is no good if the coolant is getting sprayed by the fan.I would change the water pump.

i changed the iac and i idles but i still have a collant leak. i put a new thermostat in and re sealed the water pump. there ia a leak on top somewhere but i cant find it. i think its blocked. the hose on top is very hot next to the motor and the raditor is cold it never gets hot. when i drive 30 miles or more when i stop after i park it there is a gush and a quart or so of fluid hits the ground. the truck never gets above 210 according to the gauges in the dash though.
i removed the water pump and changed the gasket on the new gasket i applied sealent and reinstalled on the motor. the water level will go down in the radiator but it dose not get hot also the truck only leaks when its hot most of the collant is sprayed by the fan so it is hard to locate the leak. when it is in park there are no leaks. i have changed and sealed the thermostat and the gasket as well. the hoses look fine but maybe when hot they spring a leak? I have no idea at this point
