This osunds like alose torx bolt in the steering column. Remove the 2 piece plastic cover behind the steering wheel. Look for the torx bolts and see if any are loose.

Have a 1995 Mercury Villager; When I drive it it forward gears it has almost no power; when i drive it in reverse it moves great as though nothing is wrong. Is this a recognizable problem?


That would be because you need a new tourque converter. This is a knowen issue within your vehilce year and make. I am sorry to bring such bad news.

95 mercury villager v.6 jolts when entering first


you need to disconnect the battery for 2 hours to clear the computer memory so it can relearn the new engine.
Also, adjust the TP, throttle position sensor with volt meter or ohm meter. clean MAF sesnor with carb cleaner.

95 merc vilager has a problem shifting into gear. i.e, from park to reerse seems a little hard,i actually have to push the shifter in and count the gears


check for a loose shifter screw in the column. Remove the upper and lower plastic covers behind steering wheel and check the torx or allen head screws. they are probably loose.

Location of the engine diagnostic connector 1995 village mercury


The diagnostic connector is located on the engine near the starter. However, there are four connectors in that location and without pictures it would be difficult to determine which is the proper one

does it start in neutral and park? if yes, linkage should be ok. The trans has it's own computer. you can buy used for about $50 from EBay or car-part.com
