Question about 1997 Mercury Villager

After driving the car for awhile the engine jumps

Whether I am driving or stopped I can feel the engine jumping? I drive it a short distance and it has no power and I have to stop the car and let it complete cool down before I can drive it again. The car never over heats and when I turn the car off I hear a ticking sound from the engine. Its like it sputters if that makes since. I have had the caylistic convertor changed the flex hose which had blew and the motor mount on the right side changed and I am still having the problem. I can drive for about 10 minutes and then the jumping and sputtering starts. Someone mentioned it could be the coils could this be? 1997 Mercury villager

ours is doing this too and we replaced the spark plugs and fuel filter and it is stiill doing it. at and idle it jumps but not bad. when you take off to drive it will get really bad and the tackometer will jump and it has no power without it jumping and jerking.

intermittents are sometimes hard to diagnose out !! and this seems as one , im curious though what made them wiggle the relays and fuses ?? was there a previous problem there ?? depending on year of manufacture of car , is weather or not the cars own pcu can help diagnose what made car stop , as later models "remember " what there last condition was that shut off engine , of course this requires diagnostic equipment to see this info that typically car owners don't own , but a qualified service tech does and knows how to use it to find your problem

1990 Ford E150, 5.8L 351 engine. When driving long distance I will stop and get gas. I shut the engine off and the battery will not have enough juice to start the car and I need a jump to start the van. ...

have you had the battery tested this could be the problem.if it was the charging system you wouldn`t be able to drive the car very far or at all as it would die from not charging from a jump start.you could have bad cable connections for the battery at the terminals and were the cables attach to the motor.just follow the ground wire from the battery down to were it fastens to the motor.pull on the cable as sometimes the cables go bad inside the insulation and can`t be seen.if the cable is bad internally then it will feel soft and move were the break is.do the same with the positive cable.check the connections and how clean the surface is were the cables attach.
