Question about 1997 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup
When was the last time it had a tune-up? A tune-up will reveal a lot, if the mechanic is knowledgeable.
Check all vacuum hoses. Physically check the hoses all the way down, by squeezing them with your fingers. Visual observation Won't Do!
Sometimes, observing the hoses may only reveal the top of the hose, or not the entire length of the hose. Might look fine on top, only to be squeezed, and find the underside of this area of hose, will turn to powder in your fingers!
Vacuum leaks will cause a serious gas mileage defect.
(Also check the rubber part of the hard line, that goes from the intake manifold, down to the transmission modulator valve)
Clogged Emission devices such as the PCV valve, will have a detrimental effect on gas mileage.
Spark plugs are a No.1 item to replace.
Spark plug wires. Dirty injector, or injectors, are other items of interest, as well as the air cleaner element.
