Question about 2002 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

Wont start when hot...

I have a 96 ford explorer that wont start after it is hot.. it has to cool off before it will start again.. I have a 2002 Explorer doing the same thing, if it gets hot out or I have been running a lot of errands it won't start. If I wait a while it eventually does but that can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour and a half. My mechanic can't diagnose the problem because it never happens when I bring it in. Any ideas?

Temperature sensor is stuck on hot. It leans the fuel mix too much to start when hot. Sometimes this is called the "cold start sequence" that the engine needs to reset into for a rich fuel mix for starting.

02 ford explorer 4.0 overheating and suddenly blowing cold air, then hot again while engine runs cool but not long

Most likely you have air trapped in your engine, particularly in the heater loop. You need to properly bleed the air out of your radiator cooling system. The hot and cold blasts of air coming from first hot water followed by air.
Read up on how to bleed air out of your radiator system. Some systems are very difficult to bleed.
If after doing a good bleed of the radiator system the problem returns, you may have a bad head gasket or other leak in your cooling system which is injecting air into the cooling system (radiator/water cooling system).

96 ford explorer wont start. all power when turn key. nothing.

if it turns over from below, then its in the ignition switch and this also feeds power to the e.c.m. to make the engine fire so you either have a bad switch contact or the hot 12 volt wire to the ignition switch

1998 Ford Explorer will not start when hot

Sounds like the choke is getting stuck. It's an electric choke. So, clean it and its linkages. Also, check the vacuum for leaks. With 123K, I'd start with a cleaning.
