This problem could be caused by a number of things, a pipe come out of place, a blown gasket, a in the engine; all of these include heavy engine work, and i wouldn't reccomend trying to fix it yourself, take it to your local garage and they'll sort it for you

Please rate my help, thanks

The service engine light means that some thing is wrong, it needs to be read. A lot of part stores will read the code for free, in my area I go to Auto Zone.

Clean the engine with an engine degreaser, then add some oil and look for the leak. It could be the oil drain plug is not tight, oil pan gasket could be bad, if your real unlucky it could be a mainseal.

Good luck.

2001 ford taurus Have a constant leak oil light has been on for weeks 3 days ago car would not turn on went to auto advance to get the battery check; replace battery car still shut off, permenantly f

There are some simple kits which have a glowing fluid which can be seen with a UV ultraviolet light supplied in the kit.

You add the glowing liquid to the engine, run the motor, and inspect the drips for the leak location. Then you fix that bad part.

Now sometimes the sending units do leak. But any gasket or seal can leak just as well.

Do not run the engine with the oil light on. Check your oil level constantly. No oil=no engine.

Can not speculate on battery problem from info provided.

Have oil leak not heavy, but it leaks any answer were it could be coming from..

Valve Covers, Head Gaskets, Oil Pan Seal and a number of other spots. You'll need to clean the motor with Gunk Engine cleaner and then look for the largest build ups of oil and crud to get a better idea where it is.

Leaking oil and yellow light came on

Sorry to hear your bad news. Sounds like a major oil leak. First some introductory look sees. Looks for oil leaking near the filter. Did you recently have an oil change? If no - what is the mileage? To make a through diagnosis and repair you will need to get under the car most likely. I would STOP driving the car NOW. Get some jack stands and jack the car up and put the stands under it in a SAFE place. The owners manual will help to show you where your model is meant to be jacked and braced.
Wipe off all the oil you can and inspect for oil leaks CLOSEST to the FRONT of the car as wind will blow it backwards. With a high mileage car and the oil light or check engine light coming on. Check for oil leaks at the line - the oil pressure sending unit and the oil filter. These are the most common. If not one of these. Try to fill the oil again and if there is plenty of oil in the car - start it and lay under the car CAREFULLY and see if you can find oil escaping from somewhere on the engine. Also take your vin numbers down and call the local dealer to see if there is a recall on your particular car that somehow effects the problem your having it can save you thousands.

Hope this helps you get your car repaired and running again.

How do you change the crank seal, on a 1996 sable 24 valve

Yikes!, It is a major overhaul. You have to pull the engine, pull the bottom out of the engine, pull the crank, which means pulling the front off the engine too including the timing belt and all the other stuff on the front, replace the seals, put it all back, you could have bought a new engine for the same amount. If it is a minor leak, let it drip, check your oil. You would be lucky if it was just the pan seal leaking, but you can't chance it, you got it apart that far, you have to replace them all.

My 1998 taurus makes a tapping noise when i first start it but within 1 to 5 minutes it stops. I don't need oil.

could be a lifter / hla that is leaking down over night and must wait for oil to get back up to top of engine before it quiets. Could also be the oil filter that is allowing the same to happen , could also be piston slap - suggest you consult a trained ear to hear the engine on 1st start

1999 Ford Taurus GL Wagon 3.0 V6 178K - Two issues. 1 - oil pan - slight leak due to worn oil pan gasket, probably cork. Worn rusted spot on the bottom of the pan. I have a replacement pan from a salvage...

yes the exhaust has to come down. 6 or 7 bolts no big deal.Didnt your mechanic tell you that? why isnt he replacing the pan for you?Why would you buy a pan from a salvage yard, they are cheap from aftermarket sources, and if it leaks when you are done, tough luck.. turning the ck engine light is not solving anything. your trans has a problem and the sooner its fixed, the less it may cost you.

93 explorer dripping oil over night from bottom of car

clean the srea and watch, tracing back to the source. The oil can leak from the front seal, rear main seal,Pan gaske, or come from the top of engine. Chances are greater it's coming from the front because of fan draft. good luck
