Engine mounts on a 1985.5 Porsche 944

How hard is it to change the engine mounts on this car? Can you give me any advice on doing this. One garage wants $1,300.00 to do this. Is this a fair price. they said it takes special tools to do this. Does the engine have to come all the way out or can it just be picked up and the mounts replaced? Thanks for any help you can give me. It's a 1985.5 Porsche 944 59,000 miles.

My 1988 944T is in need of engine mounts too. It is a common problem with those cars. Check the 944 technical forum on Pelican Parts or Clark's Garage for some very good write ups and how-too's.

I also have to do one on the drivers side, i am going to jack up the engine away from the mount to put mine in and lower the exhaust, if you are being charged that amount then take it some place else.

1985 Porsche 944 vibration in engine

It is a common problem for the seals in the oil cooler to leak and allow water into the oil. I'd check this first, there should be a procedure online somewhere. Try googling "clarks garage"
