How do I replace my inner axle on the passenger side of my 2002 Dodge Ram 4x4 4.7L. I lent my truck out and the C clip let go of the CV axle. The intermediate axle spline is stripped and I need to change...

Lift and support front end on suitable jack stands preferably on frame. Remove right front cv axle, stub shaft, and seal. You will need to pull the right front brake caliper assembly loose and place to the side. Then remove bolts from shock and upper control arm and hub nut to do this. Next, remove axle lock actuator on passenger side of front axle. Place a drain pan underneath front diff cover and remove cover and drain axle. In the center of differential there will be an 8 mm head bolt holding spider gear cross-shaft. Remove bolt and cross-shaft only! Push inner axle in until clip clears inside of passenger spider gear. Set clip aside and push/pull axle shaft straight out to passenger side.

Front passenger side broken axle

Need to replace the drive shaft. Aftermarket parts work fine. The biggest issue is removing inside connection to the half shaft. The clip ring tension is stronger than the boot holding the inboard joint on the drive shaft. To break it loose get a large screw driver and from under the car in front hit the inboard joint hard several times until it over comes the clip ring. Remember... always use jack stands when working under the car.

CV axle shaft replacement

Instructions
1.Set the vehicle transmission in "Park" and engage the emergency brake before attempting to remove the front right axle. Place wood blocks behind the rear wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling and loosen the lug nuts one complete turn on the right front wheel with a tire tool.

2. .Lift the front passenger side of the vehicle with a floor jack and slide a jack stand under the vehicle frame near the wheel. Lower the floor jack so the vehicle is sitting on the jack stand and move the floor jack out of the way.

3. Remove the lug nuts with the tire tool and set the front passenger wheel out of the way. Take the cap off the end of the axle with a standard screwdriver and remove the cotter pin from the axle with a pair of pliers.

  • 4. Slide the crown washer off the axle and loosen the axle nut with a crescent wrench. Unfasten the top and bottom bolts that secure the brake caliper to the rotor with a socket wrench and slide the bolts out of the caliper.
  • 5. Lift the brake caliper off the rotor and remove the brake pads from the caliper. Suspend the brake caliper from the vehicle frame with a wire hanger and take the rotor off the axle.
  • 6. Unfasten the thru-bolt on the vertical sway bar with a socket wrench and remove the bolt from the sway bar. Take the channel bolt out from between the sway bar and lower A-arm that the thru-bolt ran through, and loosen the bolts that secure the front right axle to the center flange with a socket wrench and breaker bar. You may need to loosen the bolts with the breaker bar before removing them with the socket wrench.
  • 7. Slide the front right axle off the center flange and let it rest on the A-arm. Lift the front passenger side up with the floor jack to get enough room between the steering knuckle and A-arm and slide the axle out of the vehicle.
    Install in reverse order.

Trying to change a bad alternator that is on the bottom

    must be a v-6?

You will need to remove the drive axle on the passenger side in order to get enough room to pull the alternator out. Its not to bad to do.

Separate the lower ball joint from the passenger front knuckle.

remove the axle nut and push the axle out of the hub.

remove the two bolts that hold the carrier bearing on the drive axle to the support bracket.

You will then be able to remove the entire axle from the vehicle. Have a drip pan ready to catch any trans fluid that may come out of the opening the axle goes into on the transmission.

Once the axle is out of the way you can remove the three bolts that hold the alternator in place. the top one only needs to be loose as the hole in the alt should be sloted. Unplug the connector and remove the battery cable from the alt. It will be a rubix cube but there will be a position that the alt will need to be in that will allow the alt drop come out of the opening left by the removal of the drive axle.

    My front differential is leaking!

I cannot see it, but I am guessing that you need to replace your axle seal. To do this, you have to pull your CV shaft out. Remove the tire, remove the caliper from the top of the rotor. Using a hammer on the back, remove the rotor. Take off the spindle (axle) nut, separate the axle (CV shaft) from the hub. Replace seal. It should pop right out. Good luck!

    Removing the front axle

I am going to assume that this is the driver's side axle you are having problems with. If so, there is a tool that is required with a slide hammer to pull this axle from this transaxle. If it is the passenger side, there is a tool that is inserted through the transaxle after the driver's side axle is removed.
