Question about 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

1 Answer

Cruise causes surging, vehicle does jerky lurching

Engine runs fine at idle; when cruising and let up on gas, vehicle engine surges and puts terrific strain on drive line. Alternator just replaced; ABS light is on most of the time,: check engine light comes on every other day.

Battery was running hot, drying out battery cells before alternator replaced, but seems steady now. Have 1999, 2.2L fuel inject, no distributor. Is Fuel Pump the problem? Or something more insidious?

Have noticed problems develop is battery water goes low. Last time, the fuel tank sending unit went out, but no similar symptoms this time.

Replacement alternator was $215, Autozone lifetime gaurantee. Alternator is likely not the main problem. Rodeo's get erratic electrical problems when battery amp output drops low. Various system become affected. I know from previous experience. High humidity seems to affect my vehicle in particular. what other system is likely to have gone out, I wonder, that might contribute to this condition?

Get a good alternator not a cheap one.

I worked at a Isuzu dealership. Get a good alternator. We would get Rodeos in with that problem with a zone alt. or advance auto, napa etc. Only had good luck with an Isuzu replacement or Beck Arnly units for this problem.

My 2010 jeep patriot with a 2.4 is surging when u accelerate from a stop.

Could be any one of a number of sensors for engine control . Mass air flow sensor , TPS - throttle position sensor, or APP- accerator pedal position sensor etc... Without testing an looking at scan tool data ,who could say for sure . How does the vehicle idle ? how does the vehicle run at cruise speeds ? Does the vehicle have electronic throttle control ? 2010 - i'm sure it probably does . Is the check engine light lit ? Your best bet would be to take it to a qualified repair shop.

What does the MIL code "PO 320" mean, please?

code p0320 refers to cam shaft position (CKP) sensor/engine speed (RPM) sensor--circuit malfunction=== causes --wiring--CKP/RPM sensor ---ECM
because the engine runs ok until it is on cruise control I would be investigating the RPM sensor for a fault
The cruise control takes its control from the RPM sensor and if that circuit is interminable the the cruise control doesn't know what rpms to maintain.

1999 Silverado has an engine surge of 200-500 RPM at 45 to 55 MPH

sounds a little like a cruise control problem.
they used to have a centering adjustment that kept the speed within a range. If the range somehow shifted to the high end this would cause your surge. it would be a screwdriver slot on the outside of the case.cw increase ccw decrease. yours is set too high or cw.
I work the screw back and forth several times in case dirt entered the cruise module.

2007 JGC 5.7 Hemi hesitates to accelerate when the vehicle is at cruising speeds above 35mph. When it is at a constatnt speed and the throttle is at a fixed position it feels a bit jerky as well.

I suspect TPS (Throttle Positioning Switch) they're basically a rheostat that controls throttle movement. After a while, spots that get most used develop "Hot Spots" - and will cause a surge or hesitation when at that location. Replace TPS.

I have a 2000 chevy blazer with a 4.3 vortec motor,my problem is when i'm cruising at a steady speed the engine surges it usually happens around 45-50 mph

ENGINE SURGING COULD BE WEAK FUEL PUMP, STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER,BAD TORQUE CONVERTER SOLENOID OR TORQUE CONVERTER. OR FAULTY TPS.

1990 Toyota Pickup Idle engine surging?

If the engine is surging/idle increasing and then decreasing at idle, have your guy check for leaks between the air flow meter and the engine, also, if no leaks are found, Check/replace the throttle position sensor

Dodge ram 1500 engine rpms surge at freeway speed

those sensors could cause the issue, clean the MAF 1st, also clean the idle system using the following procedure, the IAC can cause cruise surge. I use this to cure these problems all the time.

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve (IAC) and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
