Question about 1997 GMC Jimmy

2 Answers

Fuel injector replacement goes horribly wrong.

I have a 1997 GMC Jimmy SLE with 4.3 V-6 with the CSEFI injector system. I noticed the the truck was running rough so I removed the injector unit to clean it and then reinstalled the unit. Ever since I have not been able to restart the vehicle, I get a loud knocking noise when trying to turn it over, and to top it all off there is gas leaking from the muffler. I do not know what I have done wrong, I have looked and looked at the installation and everything seems to be where it should be. Can anyone out there please tell me if I missed a step or if by cleaning the injectors I have created another problem.

We had the same problem with a 95 Jimmy, Drain your oil, and if you get more than 5 qts it means the injection system failed and filled the bottom half of your motor with gas. You can simply check the level on the dipstick and smell it first before draining. We drained and replaced oil and filter, and the expensive injector assembly, but the motor only lasted 4 months after that and now I am replacing the motor in it. Check around to see if there is a product on the market to save the bearings in your motor before going through all the expense and work. Happy motoring.

How do I tell if the pcm is bad on a 97 jimmy v6 csefi

a symptom of a bad pcm would be that all of your dashboard indicators would be going on and off, the whole rig would basically freak out if you will. I would check everything that has to do with fuel delivery, fuel pressure regulator would be one of the first if it has one, not sure on those models, but a sure sypmtom of the regulator going out is lots of black smoke out the pipe and mass fuel consumption. Something to keep in mind is that problems elsewhere can effect connected systems. You have your work cut out for you on this, but the pcm would be the last thing, and before condemning it look at all things connected with your fuel system.

Specifically sensor 3 bank 1 oxygen sensor 2000 GMC Jimmy 4.3L v-6 4wd

Skolruby, There are four different codes for bank1 sensor3 as i think you may have written it backwards. It goes as follows, code po143 ho2s circuit low voltage bank 1 sensor 3 po144 ho2s high voltage bank1 sensor 3 po146 ho2s circuit insufficient activity bank 1 sensor 3 po147 ho2s heater performance bank 1 sensor 3. If you are getting code 44 lean exhaust. or 45 rich exhaust, It will show up on an emmisions test witthout the check engine light on and fail. If you get code 45 you might have a csefi fuel meter leak, A common problem with this engine. It is hard to detect unless you dissesemble it and see raw gas by the plastic injector tubes. I have the same year and model jimmy. It took days on a diagnostic machine to shake it out, What a pain. good luck.

1996 GMC JIMMY won't start

I think 54 p.s.i. on fuel pressure is close to border line, Are the injectors pulsating, You can have fire at the plugs but if injectors are not pulsating it will not run. I know there were problems with the injections systems on blazers and jimmys around that year, i would look closer to the injection system.

1997 GMC Jimmy 4x4 SLE

You may have a combination problem. Your system uses electrical/vacumn. The ducts are operated by vacumn being directed to different hoses by the electrical switch. If you can get to one of the hose with the engine running, pull one off of its ports and check for vacumn.
