Check the fuses.

Some transmissions will not allow you to move the selector stick, unless the brake is depressed. If the brake globes, or fuses have blown, you can not move the transmission of out park.

When i turn the key I get no dash lights, 97 blazer

I had the same exact thing happen to me, I have a 97 blazer and after hours of screwing around with it and several different options... it turned out to simply be the ignition switch.

My 97 blazer wont start or turn over, now my key is stuck

Shake the shifter or press up past park and it will free the key. The pins in the ignition get easily stuck on GM vehicles. I would also assume that you may have a short or bad negative ground cable from motor to body, door switch wiring, or radio. Otherwise your altenator may be bad

Chevy Blazer 4 x 4 and Engine Light Problems

To your problem with the air bag, I was driving an 07 GMC Sierra 1500 that was doing the same thing. Next thing the charges went on the seat belt tensioners, luckily I was parked because the belts gave me a pretty violent **** back. Turns out the SDM was corroded and caused the action, and there was no reason the air bags didn't deploy as well other than pure luck. I would say get it checked by GM, you don't want to mess around with safety systems. You can visually inspect the integrity of the SDM, it's located under the driver's seat, unfortunately I think the seat has to be removed to see it. Mine had a calcium like build up all over the external casing.

I have a 97 Chevy Blazer w/ 181,000 miles. When

if the key is getting stuck its the Brake Shift Interlock Solenoid its just under the ignition switch you have a short in it you can unplug it or replace it what its doing is over heating the solenoid and at times it can drain your battry.and for the trans acting up you could have a short to one of your solenoids or it could be the trans filter.

Blazer

did you turn the key fully to towards the dash? take the steering wheel left and right slowely and at the same time turn the key back and forth several times slowly. there is a detent inside the steering column that allows you to ingage the neutral safety switch. this should help.....please rate this thanks.
