Transmission is taking long to change gears. Car struggles to go up hill.

TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING.TIME FOR TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER CHANGE IF CAR HAS OVER 100000 MILES .CHECK UNDERNEATH CAR AND SEE IF TRANSMISSION OIL PAN IS WET OR LOOK LIKE PAN GASKET IS LEAKING.YOU NEED TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION FILTER AND FLUID.YOUR TRANSMISSION DONT HAVE FILLER TUBE YOU HAVE TO ADD A PINT AT A TIME AND REMOVE CHECK PLUG ON TRANSAXLE LOCATED NEAR THE PAN ADJACENT TO THE ENGINE OIL DRAIN PLUG.THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROCEDURE YOUR CAR HAS TO BE LIFTED UP IN THE AIR ON A LIFT. CAR HAS TO BE LEVEL AND ENGINES HAS TO RUN FIVE MINUTES FOR TRANSMISSION TO BE IN OPERATING TEMPERATURE. ONCE TRANSMISSION GET OPERATING TEMPERATURE REMOVE THE CHECK PLUG.IF NO FLUID COME OUT YOU NEED TO ADD MORE FLUID NO MORE THAN A PINT AT A TIME.IF FLUID POUR OUT CHECK PLUG HOLE YOU HAVE TOO MUCH FLUID IN TRANSMISSION.IF FLUID DRIP A SLOW DRIP YOUR FLUID LEVEL CORRECT.TO ADD FLUID YOU REMOVE THE VENT FILL PLUG ON TOP TRANSAXLE WHERE DIP STICK USED TO BE LOCATED.YOU CAN DO THIS JOB YOUR SELF.YOU NEED TO BE ON LEVEL SOLID GROUND AND YOU NEED JACK STANDS AND A FLOOR JACK. LIKE I SAID THIS IS A DANGEROUS JOB AND YOU NEED ABOUT 12M SOCKET TO REMOVE TRANSAXLE CHECK PLUG.

Check the sending unit for the oil then check the oil pump. I bet on the oil pump being bad.

TO DO A TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE YOU NEED HAVE TRANSMISSION FLUID ON HAND YOU NEED TRANSMISSION FILTER AND GASKET.YOU NEED 3/8 WRENCH THE RATCHET TYPE WITH METRIC SOCKETS. YOU NEED JACK TO RAISE VECHICLE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS.YOU NEED A DRAIN PAN. ONCE YOU GET VECHICLE OFF GROUND.PLACE DRAIN PAN UNDER TRANSMISSION OIL PAN REMOVE OIL PAN DRAIN BOLT.LET FLUID DRAIN OUT IN DRAIN PAN THEN SCREW DRAIN PLUG BACK IN PLACE DONT OVER TIGHTEN.REMOVE OIL PAN AND GASKET. BESURE TO HAVE PAPER TOWEL ON HAND.MAKE SURE TRANSMISSION OIL PAN GASKET SURFACE CLEAN BEFORE INSTALLING NEW PAN GASKET. ONCE TRANSMISSION OIL PAN REMOVED. REMOVE THE OLD TRANSMISSION FILTER INSTALL THE NEW FILTER.THEN WITH NEW GASKET ON OIL PAN IN PLACE.OIL PAN NEED TO BE CLEAN SO THE GASKET ADHESIVE WILL HOLD PAN GASKET IN PLACE WHILE INSTALLING PAN AND GASKET TO TRANSMISSION.INSTALL OIL PAN BOLTS INSTALL THEM CRISS CROSS TORQUE PAN BOLTS TO 7 TO 10 FT LBS. LOOK IN OWNERS MANUAL FOR TRANSMISSION FLUID CAPACITY.BUY 10 QUARTS .TO BE ON SAFE SIDE SO YOU WILL HAVE ENOUGH FLUID ON HAND. IF YOU DONT HAVE NO TRANSMISSION FLUID CAPACITY. ADD 7.5 QUARTS FLUID.WAIT FOR 2 MINUTES.CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL ON DIP STICK. SHOULD BE ON THE FULL MARK.CRANK VECHICLE UP.LET IDLE FEW MINUTES CHECK TRANSMISSION DIP FLUID LEVEL IF DROPPED ADD LITTLE MORE.WHILE ENGINE IDLING GETTING WARM UP. KEEP EYE ON FLUID LEVEL.WHEN FLUID LEVEL STOP DROPPING. APPLY BRAKES HOLD FOOT ON BRAKES SHIFT THROUGH ALL GEARS TWO TIMES. THEN CHECK FLUID LEVEL SHOULD BE ON FULL MARK.CHECK FOR LEAKS WHILE ENGINE RUNNING.

I took out the transmission plug and started my 1998 Pontiac Sunfire to check transmission oil and it poured out until there was no more coming out. Does this mean the transmission is now empty of its oil...

The vehicle needs to be level. If you have the front jacked up and not the rear the level will be off.

The vehicle also need to be running before you pull the plug.

Once the vehicle is level, running, and up to temp pull the plug. Remove the fill cap and add fluid until it starts to come out of the hole. Reinstall the plug. Your good to go!

Oil level light show

Check the oil level. engine off; open hood; pull dipstick; wipe with rag and replace. Then pull out again and read the oil level. If it is at the lowest acceptable level, you need to add one quart. If below that, add more. On the valve cover, there is a cap that comes off for you to pour the oil into. Add some oil, wait a few seconds, then check level again at the dipstick. Do not overfill.

Check your owners manual for which oil to use - normally will be 5W-30, but go with the manual's specification.

MY CAR STARTS BUT I HAVE NO GEARS BUT WHEN JACK IT UP BOTH TIRES OFF THE GROUND THE GEARS WORK. WHEN I WAS DRIVING I LOST ALL GEAR

Do you have forward and reverse when the wheels are off the ground? It is possible you have lost hydrolic pressure. Check the fluid level by letting the engine warm up, applying the brake, and then run the gear selector through the full range of gears, pausing a few seconds in each gear. Put it back in park but leave the engine running. Then check the fluid level on the transmission dipstick, twice. If it is low, add some and that'll likely fix the issue. If it is full, then you probably need a new transmission oil pump.

Need to know what the symbols mean on my dash lost

It's your oil light.

Check your oil light as it's most likely low. Other causes can be a bad sensor, or there's a pressure leak

How do i refill a manual ford escort 9.1 L transmission

You can check and fill your transmission oil level by removing the speedometer drive unit located at the left top. Remove the cable by removing the clip that hold it, then undo the bolt that holds the clamp down, when you remove the actual drive unit it has a level indicator on it. The oil is Ford Mercon Automatic transmission Oil. Let me know if this helps. Also if you need to add oil, you should find the leak and stop it first.
