Obtain a very large needlenosed plier and twist the lever as the cable would; if you can go through the grille opening with the plier.
these large 15 inch pliers are sold at Sears & Harbor Freight Tools

Chrysler crossfire, hood open lever under steering wheel will not work, can i open it manually with tools?

the cable has probably broken, you have to get to the latch from underneath the car, its hard to get to, and with any luck the cable broke someplace other than right at the latch, if so you can use vice grips and grab the cable and pull like crazy to unlatch it

How to open the hood when the inside hood release malfunctions?

If the cable broke you would first need to get under the car in the front. You look strait up in the middle, you will see the latch. Then you will also see where the cable goes into the latch, there is an arm that it hooks to. You will need to move that arm in the direction that the cable pulls it, which is towards the drivers side of the car. This will release the hood. Then you just pull up on the release arm and open the hood!

Can not open hood on 1998 town and country lx

is the cable that goes to the hood latch broken?
or is it inside the van were the cable broke?

"if the cable is still were it should be....but the lever is can get a pair or pliers and pull the cable "metal one not the plastic cover"
but if the cable broke inside the hood and now you cant get it to open....

The only tools required are a set of pliers, a good work light, and coat hanger.

"try to make a hook with the coat hanger"

Set the work light down low so that it shines up through the grill at your latch. The coat hanger pulling action. You must use the coat hanger close to where the cable connects to the mechanism, then pull in a direction as close to that of the cable as possible.

be patient......and if you get it to open have the replacement cable ready.......

hope this helps XD

Hood release cable is broken

Is there any part of the cable inside the cabin that you can pull with a pair of pliers? I suggest that you try that. You may need to disassemble it from the pull handle to make that work.
