Hi. this is caused by a blown head gasket or warped head. This situation is very serious and it will require immediate attention as soon as possible. If this gasket or head isn't repaired, it will ruin the entire engine.

The most common situation here is a blown head gasket but, it can exceed to a more serious issue like an warped head as well.

please rate and god bless:)

If oil is brown, the problem is a blown head gasket. In that instance, do not drive the car or you will damage the engine bearings. If oil is reddish, then the transmission cooler in the radiator has failed. Again, don't drive or trans will be damaged. Usually there will also be signs of antifreeze in the engine oil with a head gasket failure. If you just bought the car, the oil you see in the radiator may be a sealant added to stop a radiator leak. However, the condition should be verified to make sure that it is not from either of the failures I listed. Testing is far cheaper than a new engine!!!
Good luck

Pull your dipstick,
see if you have anti freeze in the crank case also!!
if you do then you have ablown head gasket!!!
if not pull you tranny dip stick if you anti freeze in there you have a bad radiator!!!!

WHAT HAVE YOU CHANGED? BY THE WAY CHECK TO SEE IF WATER IS MIXING IN WITH THE OIL WATER AND OIL TOGETHER WOULD LOOK LIKE BROWN MUCK ON DIPSTICK.THIS WOULD BE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET OR CRACKED HEAD AND WOULD CAUSE IT TO OVERHEAT.ALSO CHECK THE ANTIFREEZE STRENGTH CAUSE IT HELPS IT TO RUN COOLER.MAKE SURE YOUR FANS ARE KICKING ON WHEN IT STARTS TO GET HOT.THESE IS ALL I KNOW HOPE ITS HELPFUL!

What kind of coolant goes inside a 1999 cadillac deville base v8

Dexcool is the GM silicate free coolant. If something else has been added, you need to do a good flush. Mixing different types of coolant can have some nasty consequences.
You can find Dexcool just about anywhere antifreeze is sold.

What type of anti-freeze is recommended?

Many newer cars from GM require Dex-Cool, but if you read the labels of regular antifreeze, from Prestone, for instance, the warranty is still 5 years and it can mix with any color antifreeze.

I use regular antifreeze vs. Dex-Cool in my 1997 Cadillac Deville and, (knock on wood) haven't had any problems.

I believe that Dex Cool is a little bit more expensive than regular antifreeze.

Use a 50/50 mixture of whatever type you plan to use, though.

What coolant go in 1995 cadillac deville

I would use any Dex Cool approved coolant, but if you're on a budget, I would use any antifreeze that says that it can mix with any color antifreeze. The warranties are the same on both types generally 5 years or so.

The antifreeze sold at Walmart for car radiators is good (but don't use the pink antifreeze used for RVs for winterizing plumbing)

Use a 50/50 solution of water to antifreeze by volume when topping off yor radiator through the overflow tank.

Overheating,eveything looks ok.

I have a 97 Cadillac Deville with a northstar engine and have replaced it twice so far, so i answer this by experience...i've noticed to my two prior engines that went bad that the normal temp should NOT EXCEED 228 (normal), the red overheating light will come on at 250 and at 260 it will beep and tell you to stop engine - idle engine and will begin to smoke (overheat).

I hope this helps you and anyone else...by the way if your asking why did i replace my engine twice is simply because my cadillac is super clean inside and out, immaculate condition.

No heat 97 deville-

Hello;
Have your heater core backflushed. These vehicles use DexCool and they clog up terribly. The DexCool antifreeze does not mix with anything so you will need to flush the system. Hope this helps.
Thanks;
