REPLACING THE TIMING BELT ON A 98 VW

you definitely need to replace the belt and water pump and sometimes the tensioner. i would recommend a high mileage belt and a water pump with a metal impeller.
failure to replace the belt immediately can cause severe engine damage.
believe it or not there is a youtube video that shows how to do the belt on a new beetle.

What is Ford's recomendation (mileage) for replacing the serpentine belt on a 1998 Ford Explorer?

Theres no mileage to change just to check it, the way to check the belt is to look at the inside of the belt and you will see grooves in which the belt rides, if you see cracks in the belt then its time tom replace. the belt should be looked at every oil change it thats no time to check. hope this is helpful.

Belt or Chain

Yes those vehicles have timing belts instead of chains. I have yet to see a timing belt that doesnt need to be changed at some point. Maybe the tech meant you didnt need to change them now. Each manufacturer has their own mileage interval, but generally speaking, anywhere between 60,000 and 90,000 miles they are due to be replaced.

My 97 Audi Cabriolet lost engine power at highway speed and will no longer fire up. There is no fuel pressure or spark. Any suggestions?

You have apparently broken a timing belt..If the engine and cams are not rotating together, the ecu will not send a spark or fuel. Pull the cam sprocket covers and inspect the belt.

Timing belt replacement

The timing belt on this car should done based on which ever comes first recommended mileage or time basis. If this car has the 2.5 litter Engine I would recommend changing it ASAP. The 2.5L engine is What is referred to as an interference engine which means that if the timing belt breaks the pistons will slap the valves rendering the engine useless. Keep in mind a timing belt is made only of rubber and nylon cord it is not uncommon for them to fail before the recommended service intervel

Timing belt

A dealer told my son in law to change the timing belt at least once before it reached 80000 miles. I would probably change it at 60, maybe 70.

2003 Honda Civic -LX Timing belt

90000 Miles on the Timing Belt. Do not let this go! A timing belt failure can cause internal engine problems.

Should cost around 200 or so, depending upon your local labor rates.

Good Luck!
