Question about 1998 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

Hi I have a 1998 jeep wrangler that I just changed the exaust manifold on I numbered everything and think I did a good job putting it all back together. My problem is the fuel gageand alternator gage wont come on and the vehicle cranks over but will not start. It has electronic fuel injection. I sprayed some starting fluid in one of the spark plug holes and something fired off so I think Im getting spark but no gas. I pushed on the shrader on the fuel valve and some gas came out , so I have gas at the fuel rail. Any ideas? Thank You, Mark I have the same problem with my 1998 jeep wrangler. I actually took it to a mechanic to have the exhaust manifold replaced and immediately after my jeep developed a problem where it won't start on wet days. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

1998 Jeep Wrangler Sport tail lights don't work. Stop lamps, turn signals, reverse lamps all work. Everything seems to work except the tail lights.

if the bulbs are good, the only thing left is the headlight switch, or wires. black/yellow wires from the switch all the way back to bulbs. ck power to the bulbs first. if no power, then ck power at switch.

1. did you put oversized tires on the vehicle, if so that changes the gear ratio and will result in power loss,
2.. the catylitic coverter is plugged, often the coverter breaks apart and the pieces find there way to the outlet pipe and restrict exaust flow .
3. a fuel pump probem, low fuel presure under a load, however this condition will make the eng run lean, and most likey set a check eng light,

1998 jeep wrangler starting issues

Hi Dava224 i had the same problem with my 1989 CJ. when it was cold out i would pump the gas pedal 3-4 times before turning the ignition. it puts a small amount of fuel in the motor without stalling it out. it wont start as hard. another good idea is to keep some fuel stabalizer in the tank everytime you fill up. hope this helps

1998 jeep wrangler starting problems

There are several things you can do if you haven't done so already, Check voltage at ignition coil, as soon as the engine starts to turn over there should be voltage. If not, the crank sensor is not triggering the ECM quickly.... on 98-99 wranglers, this was a problem area. Check terminal connectors at the ECM, clean and secure, another area of concern. The module on the side of the throttle body is the air idle control 'motor' as jeep calls it. Over time they tend to carbon up and it results in bad air/fuel mixture and yet fails to send a fault code, you can remove & clean also the O2 sensor in front of the cat. convertor.remove & clean. Check fuel pressure, you should have some residual PSI. Treat fuel system with a good treatment...I like the Lucas products, their fuel system treatment and injector cleaner burns hot & clean.
I hope these suggestions help...and the wrangler returns to top form...good luck.

A little bit of work is involved here. Don't attempt unless you have quite an assortment of tools. A lot has to come off to complete this repair. You need to be a better than a beginner mechanic to do this.
